I was looking at the same boiler too and I came across a boiler installer on youtube who was not happy with some of the plastic and rubber components

Not sure why people have a problem with plastics. They usually have many superior properties which make them better suited to the job or the manufacturing process. Materials technology has come a long way which is why we see such a variety of uses for various blends these days.

This is what happens when famous companies like Worcester Bosch think they can live on their past reputation and their "German" name and get away with using plastic or composite components in their boilers instead of brass and unfortunately most consumers won't notice.

Boiler installer complains Worcester uses plastic hydroblock instead of brass:

It is not just plastic that is the issue. Here this boiler installer says that he has seen more complaints about Worcester's aluminium heat exchanger than stainless steel ones. Watch from 2.42 to see why. He goes on to explain further COMMON problems which a simple fix would have addressed. He then compares to other boilers on the wall to bring that message home.

All companies make mistakes, even great ones. But if Worcester were a great company, they would address these in the latest versions but the Worcester Bosch 2000 looks like a step back from the older ones!

Such a vague cover all term...bit like"why do people have a problem with metals!"...the right one for the right job.....not the cheapest possible

The problem is from experience. I see a lot more cracked, pinhole, worn, and brittle plastic components than metal ones. Plastic is also much more likely to end up in landfill, because whilst it's theoretically possible to recycle some of it, the simple reality is that it is often just not cost effective to do so. Thus it is also worse for the environment.

I see more Baxi duo tec / vailliant leaking diverter valves which are BRASS than I do Worcester pinholes in plastic and I wouldn’t really beleive what that bell end allan hart has to say ,,,,, I seen a video of him cleaning a condensate trap with a very harsh chemical one shot .......... twot

What's your boiler of choice then Ethel? Seeing as your standards are so high

Yours too muggles?

If you are going to use plastic, why use nasty Toys R Us plastic that literally crumbles in your hands like sand? Surely there is a tougher plastic that is more resilient to heat, pressure and chemicals?

Different engineers complain that Worcester Bosch plastic flow turbine adaptor disintegrates way too easily - see it in action here:

Surely you can't defend this choice of plastic? My boiler of choice? I would recommend Worcester Bosch the moment the mile long list of schoolboy errors have been dealt with.

So......... Ravenheat eh?
Take a look. The HE98S is a really decent boiler for the money, same heat exchanger design as Viessmann. Build quality is great and their customer service is top notch too. It's not my first choice but I've fitted a couple and I like them.
