No handouts to tax dodgers

Which schemes are they?
Not sure but I think they are looking at wealthy footballers and the like that pay their wages into a company then take a loan from that company in order to avoid the tax on that income.

As said, it will be the little man that cops it and not the wealthier ones.

Oh, the loan charge scheme? That was outlawed in July 2017... currently there's a bill to be put before parliament as HMRC wanted to make it retrospective back to 19 something or other, a Judical review said it should be only 5 years retrospective, however, parliament deems it unfair for HMRC to backdate taxation for anything it hadn't judged "illegal" HMRC don't know what they are doing.

I thinks some schemes are very close to the bone in terms of how they afford the beneficiary ways of dodging tax and it is these schemes that are being investigated by HMRC - Hamilton included.

Fair would be the amount that is justifiable by HMRC. Their investigations are bearing fruit from the tax dodgers who entered dodgy schemes, in order to avoid their fair share.

Good on them.(y)

Come on Nosey - you saying you never did a cash job? Not one little one? You must be the only builder that hasn't. You can tell us - you're amongst friends. ;)

Of course I have.

Lately though, I'm finding less and less use for cash. That ties in with the bigger stage paid jobs we do now where people pay us direct from bank to bank. What some of these builders/plumbers/plasterers/etc do with large sums of cash, is beyond me.

I think that's what you meant too. The Tories do play fast and loose especially with their wealthy buddies.

P.S. Its a public forum, people can say what they want, boyo.(y)

You can make up what you want. But I can assure you that I don't have any keyboard warriors sitting in their underpants* furiously typing rubbish 24x7 in my head reading my thoughts or telling me what I mean so, when you get your stories wrong, I'll tell you.

* In case you're in any doubt boyo, that's you and Janglin' Johhnie and Notchie. And a few other obsessives.

HMRC don't know what they are doing.
They are doing exactly what they are told.
Go after the majority who don't have the ability to fight back.
Then let the corporates and rich individuals 'tax avoid' to their heart's content.
But to assuage the clamour of the masses, have a few show trials of well known 'celebrities'.

There is a multinational plan to clamp down on such practices.
Sadly the UK will soon no longer be part of that plan!

Do you know how far back the HMRC will go, when looking at tax records for the average Joe?

Do you know that you are only legally obliged to keep tax records for a certain number of years?

Do you know it is not illegal to receive payment in cash?

Which plan is that? There is no EU plan to counter off shore investments. All the other measures the EU are proposing are already met or exceeded by HMRC (They still are clueless though)

Go on expensive skiing holidays with the family?
Everything is paid with cards though. And the tax inspectors are not stupid. I knew a painter and decorator that was investigated and he got hammered by the taxman. They found evidence of foreign holidays via his phone records.

Cash is becoming less and less relevant/useful, for law abiding folk.

vat avoidance
I thought we were talking about income tax?

Avoiding the VAT threshold is something else. It is perfectly acceptable for instance, to have the customer pay for all the mateirals, to avoid hitting the VAT threshold. This advice was once given to me by a HMRC inspector.
