100k tests

There has been talk of Korea handling it with 20k tests per day but they achieved a 2 hr turn round time. The RNA has to be multiplied just as it does with DNA testing. That's the thing that lengthens to time to a result. Korea came up with it's own speed it up machine. Numbers tested capacity does relate in some ways to turn round time as the shorter it is the less machines needed for some testing rate. Not enough info about to judge really.

A UK company came up with different quicker technology for ebola. Adapted for CV19 but only does one sample at a time. A hospital was given ~100's or so for evaluation. No other mentions.

Some countries have decided to do a China and run the virus out. Said to be easier when populations are smaller and not so concentrated. Found that comment hard to accept given how Chinese live in their cities.

See, he can't even wait till 3pm.
If HM Gov (or anyone else) is going to lie or bend the figures to make themselves look better, they ought to expect to be caught out. That's how it is.
Boris must think everyone in the country is stupid.

Do you think it's right to mislead people?

They haven't in some ways. The problem with testing is the ability to get tests to people that need them. In that sense they have done something that helps with that aspect.

They have in the same fashion they usually do - incomplete information. They could have mentioned how the increased capacity will be distributed and didn't. The other point of course is how long it takes to process them.

They were "proud" to exceed 1,000,000 tests in total the other day. Nice news item that I suspect few will pick up on and it doesn't mean much anyway - still a nice number though.

Typical politics. :) Especially from the right - afraid I'd be inclined to say just going on history.

Down to 105k tests and 63k tested, that's with 32k in the mail. :D

Pillar 1 Pillar 2 Pillar 4 Total
People tested 28,620 35,047 - 63,667
Tests 39,095 64,894 1,948 105,937
Positive 2,750 2,056 - 4,806

Pillar 2 breakdown of test types

In-person routes
Delivery routes Total tests
Daily 32,050 32,844 64,894
Cumulative 216,817 138,006 354,823

There doesn't seem to be any results about for Pillar 4 - the interesting one. Immunity and if it lasts and spread of the infected in the UK.. Obviously takes a long time and tests per day seem to come and go as it's monitoring people. I have seen 0 on one day and lots on another.

Some studies reckon as many as 80% of infected people are asymptomatic.

There was a concerted effort to test on that day just to meet the target. They tested about 50k in person on that day IIRC and on the 3rd it was down to 20k.

A virology man on the TV yesterday mentioned that the virus will spread via talking. Pretty obvious when thought about ;) I didn't. Not so far as coughs and sneezes but still significant. Shouting , whistling ....................

I have been wondering how it spreads so easily and can't help thinking that this might be a major factor followed by contact and face touching especially when some one is asymptomatic or nearly so etc. Also people standing fairly close while talking.

No one has mentioned how symptomatic the few were who bought it here initially. Many knew what the symptoms appeared to be before it got here.

Masks make even more sense if this is the case. Also for coughs and sneezes especially indoors eg shops, workplaces and etc.

I wonder when they raised risk level to high. With hospital entries running at near 2 /100,000 last Thursday they ain't kidding. So far it seems to be showing signs of levelling at that or at least the drop of rate slowing. If seen as a constant drop another 3 weeks might get it down to very low levels.

Woops 2k should have been 2. It peaked at 5 /100,000. Started at about 0.5.

perhaps they'll be able to take in some of the people left at home or in care homes.

The total number of people dying is about double the number dying in hospital, so the rate would have to halve before hospitals were capable of meeting demand.

Rationing demand is how they prevented the NHS being overwhelmed.
