Can't We Use This Anymore?

On R5L, a caller kept saying CP.

The presenter kept saying, you can't say that, you have to say "people of colour": if you use that again, I will cut you off.

He used it again, so got cut off.

Can we really not say that anymore?

The phrase 'people of colour' is a daft phrase in the modern world.

Everybody is some kind of a colour.

'People of colour' is too similar to 'coloured people'.

'Coloured people' was, in my mind, a polite way of saying 'black'. Back in the day, to call someone 'black' was quite blatant, and to say 'coloured' was more gentle.

So, we have gone back to the old fashioned way, by not saying black, and we are going round the houses saying 'of colour', yet 'coloured' is unfashionable and now deemed offensive.

Don't get it myself, but there are lots of new words and phrases which people like to use, but these are optional. The colour thing is virtually mandatory. Don't know why.

I don't understand this colour problem. It's mountains out of molehills.

Every word ever used to describe someone of colour has been deemed offensive. Why is that? Don't they like being black?

Is it because some of the originally inoffensive names get chanted in playgrounds and at football matches so often that a new name has to be found after so many years?

I've never heard 'coloured' used in a particularly offensive way though, I'm sure no one has.

I mean, the difference between 'coloured people' and 'people of colour' is the same as;

'rest home' and 'home of rest'.

And yes, 'rest home' seems an easier, more natural way of talking.

in 10 years time 'people of colour' will be deemed unacceptable anyhow.

Which suggests that he is trying to emulate Winston, with his racist actions and comments.
In which case, he'd be a good PM in a wartime scenario, emulating Churchill's murderous tendencies.
But a complete bungling fool in peacetime. He can't even organise a war against a virus.

You are full of schitt boyo.

They will sing
"Who's the ****** who's the ****** who's the ****** in the colour.

The New Zealand All Blacks are stuffed with this latest lwr/blm caper.

They must be angry, pink, RWR and Brexers. Otherwise it would be unfair to authentic gammons.

So you say black people can use the word Gammons in relation to angry, pink, RWR and Brexers who are white.... If the Brexers are Black or Asian would it still apply to them? If the Brexer was let's say a angry Muslim or a Jew!! Would they also be known as Gammons.

Good for you.
Yes thanks and proud of it, now be a good lad and join me in stamping out all terms referring to ANY colour (or shade remember ) with negative connotations or you ARE part of the problem. My trolling friend. (y)

Including your attempts at inventing new references to confectionery, with potentially racist connotations?
No doubt you thought it was funny at the time?

Especially as you stated that you had never made any reference to colour!
I don't call anyone of any colour a pejorative or any slur in reference to their skin colour
I guess it’s like a Lighter black guy is a Bournville when angry, the skin darkens with a flush of red..yeah just the same.. let’s start calling these frustrated protestors Bournvilles...
A complete lack of self awareness.
It would appear that you repeated your suggestion several times. Were you hoping it would catch on?

my understanding is that the term coloured person was a term used back in the days of segregation in the USA.

so the term has a historic past.

I realise in language terms, it makes no sense because 'coloured person' and 'person of colour' mean the same thing

in 10 years time 'people of colour' will be deemed unacceptable anyhow.
I dont think so because 'people of colour' doesnt have a connection to segregation.
