My old man at 74 years of age managed most of his life having not picked up a golf bat (although very sporty).
Last year he gave it a go and now won't shut up about it and plays 3 times a week.

Agree not for me, i used to play when i was about 12 with my old man, made me feel grown up, now it's the last thing in the world id resort to, that and cricket / kill me now.

I do think it is a great idea for exercising..But all the bullsht and snobby crap surrounding golf as a networking event always left me nauseous.Its whacking a ball and chasing it into a hole ffs...18 times...As Robin Williams so amusingly observed.
It might be like that in some of the super exclusive golf clubs but I don’t think that would apply to any course that you and I could just turn up to and pay and play.
