EU unhappy with astrazeneca

Mainstream outlets don't appear to have mentioned the AZ interview that woody posted.
I must admit the interview doesn't put the EU commission in good light.
I can only assume the bluster coming from the EU over this is to try and save face for their slow decision making.

It also crops up on the Guardian here. Which I missed when googling. I think it's less easily findable as the interview is summarised so much on most sites. Which is a shame, I like a good transcript.
As usual people can't read not that I have read the links but would suspect they more or less say this maybe with some gloss such as been added before
AZ can't meet what the EU ordered. The virus yield is lower than expected. Seems to be about 1/2 what it should have been. Pundits say and have been saying for some time that not getting as much as expected isn't unusual when vaccines are ordered. They are making bombastic noises. Not surprising really. They put a lot of money into this one. Seems we can make it ourselves but mention of increasing production rates
Other vaccines. Not blocking what goes out just monitoring. They wonder if they are being diverted to countries that are paying more for it so want to know what is actually going on. They and maybe we have the problem that Pfizer shot down it's main production plant to do work to allow it to produce more. That may interfere with us as well at some point. They have enough for the initial roll out using 1 dose and AZ in some cases. How they choose pass. If we could get more and they could be put into people fast enough they would be sticking to the timing Pfizer want.
Moderna - no idea what is going on with it. USA backed, made, gov involvement and approved there and here.
So no maker is in an ideal situation really even though they new that lots would be needed.
Us. Mainly interested due to circumstances in 1 dose and a delayed one that might be mostly when available. They expect it to have some effect on deaths and hospitalisation. If it does fine - any changes in numbers. Just as with 2 correctly timed doses they can't be sure of all effects until it's done. They wont be keen on loads of people finding out quickly for obvious reasons. They will want to find out slowly via relatively low infection rates. That will be the medical view anyway. Gov might see things differently. Then there are other factors - how long it lasts, re infection and mutations. One vaccine might be more effective on huge numbers of people than others.

The EU were asleep on this one. They did not have the foresight to set these things up in advance, and now they see the vaccine rolling out faster in other countries, the EU citizens are asking why and the EU politicians are scrambling to cover their lack of preparation.
Whatever people think about the EU, and whatever the EU spouts in terms of "worldwide problem" and "vaccine for all" etc, it's clear that the EU is attempting to control the vaccine produced within the EU and even that produced outside the EU for it's own use - even if that includes companies prevented from fulfilling their contractual obligations to the so called "third countries" - the very countries that had the foresight and planning to move three months before the EU.
Above all there is no legal mechanism in place the for EU to do that.
The fact on the EU is that their orders aren't arriving. Maybe everything would be wonderful if they were. Maybe our lot has been more cavalier about use - they have. They haven't enough to do the ideal thing. They have even had to tell some vaccination centres to stop giving 2nd doses rather firmly as they were.

I'd say the wording of their statement says they have always expected deliveries from the primary producing (UK) factories.
They work in metric over there - kilos, grams etc.
I'd say the wording of their statement says they're expecting a delivery from Amazon and it doesn't show up, so they phone Amazon and say 'where's my ******* delivery', and Amazon say 'what have you ordered?', so the EU says '**** all', so Amazon say 'well that's exactly what your going to ******* get'.
Yeah, but didn't they go 'prime'?
Inexplicably, the EU were expecting 80 million doses on the day they approved the vaccine. I also believe the suppliers led them to believe this was possible - although with disclaimers.
