Funny how they don't like it when the EU applies the 'third country' rules as was expected!

But it isn't to do with brexit, it's to do with non essential travel. They should have been fined when they got back to the UK too. Sloppy reporting by the express as usual.

Yep, and they say the same, if you don't have residencia, then you're automatically turned back as your journey is obviously non essential.

It does appear there are some particularly dumb expats voting for Brexit and not bothering to register for residency. They only had 4.5 years!

They had about three months in some cases. I understand that Spain has not extended the period for registrations in the same way that France has.
The final agreement on reciprocal residential criteria, etc was not agreed until late 2020.
