I've dealt with housing repair and building claims where we knew the claimant was wrong, sometimes blatantly lying, but its just not worth the cost and risk of going to court. Sometimes we've won cases but still lost financially.

So its just a commercial decision, and right or wrong can be left out of the equation. Pay up, move on, forget it.

But what invariably never changes is that when people speak of wanting "justice" what they really mean is "money".

Even when someones honour and respect is at stake??

That's it, "at stake" whether innocent or guilty. The spectacle will be in the proceedings, the innuendo, the inference, the desire to pull out juicy information into the public realm. The press will have a field day, and the accused will be deemed guilty even if found innocent. That's how it works, if you have not noticed, no one is really interested in the outcome.

Yes the press are making what they can out of it.

It looks like the press are more interested in the unproven claim of one girl and one man an two locations, than they are with the proven claims of many teenage girls and many more predatory community rape gangs in several UK cities.

Justice frequently has a monetary value. Sometimes it doesn't. As has been said, some would fight to clear their name. Others would happily pay an undisclosed sum, especially when that money is not from hard-earned savings.
