What have you been doing today?

I came back from Tenerife last night so I had a few jobs to do today.
I started my car up for the first time in 11 weeks, it started as soon as I turned the key. I reversed it out of the drive and back in, just to check if the pads had stuck to the discs, no problems there either. I can't take it on the road because I SORNed it and I'm not going to tax it until the 1st of march. I'm not going to pay for the month of February just to get four days.
I had to put a new battery in the shed alarm too. The old battery had been in there since 2011, I hope the new one lasts as long.

In the good old days of taxing the car by post or at the post office, you used to be able to tax it two working days before the tax was due to start so you could have taxed it at a post office tomorrow. Nowdays you have to wait until a minute past midnight on the first of the month.

Decided to do a bit of garden tidying today as the weather is nice. This is what I encountered when I opened the gardening shed.
I'd actually brushed most of it up when I took the picture but originally it covered the entire floor of an 8' x 6' shed. Mr mo;e looks like he had a comfortable winter in there.

Took the dog for an early morning walk over the fields today - the flooded corner had a thin covering of ice on it.

Then, over the allotment to start marking out my beds. Bloody knackering work and I'm aching all over. Same again tomorrow but at least it's starting to take shape now and not before time.

Digging, sieving, digging, sieving, di......... you get the message. Been digging and sieving all the stones, glass, pottery and bindweed from the soil in one of my beds at the allotment today. Did a couple of hours before going home for lunch then back over there until 5.30 when all the gnats started lunching on me. At least I finished it and managed to plant my garlic and onions. Backbreaking work so I'm giving it a rest for a few days.

Drilled three 117mm holes with a core drill for extractor ducting.....two up a height and one at ground level.
My shoulders ache like never before but the Macrist drill did the job well and made the £65 or whatever seem like a bargain.
John :)

Are you sure thats not Rowland?.

That is a possibility but not seen any evidnce such as greasy marks along walls/appliances and no signs of droppings. We have had moles and voles over the other side of the garden so suspect a mole. There are no food sources such as grass/flower seeds in the shed so don't think a rat would hang around for long. So long as whatever it is stays out the house I can cope with it. Might rig up some sort of trap if it visits again.

Moles don't usually spread the soil over an area beyond the heap it chucks up so if it looks like a series of slightly flattened hills its probably moles but ive seen rats dig nesting chambers under shed floors scattering soil everywhere. I dug 2ft down through one floor and found chambers stuffed with chewed string and polythene bags

Early morning dog walk before work - took her up to the local windmill.

Was surprised at the amount of traffic on the road until I remembered there was another bleedin' train strike on. That was a bugger as I had to go to the Olympic village for work today so I had to get the commuter scooter out - the car would have been out of the question due to the traffic on the road.

Early finish for me as everything was up to spec so I popped up to the viewing area in the velodrome to get some lunch in the café. Not a bad place to sit and eat your lunch.

Popped in to Marks's to pick up a suit jacket that I'd ordered. Going to go away for a long weekend tomorrow so we will be going out to dinner tonight to get in to the holiday mood! :)

Sold our state of the art hi-fi on ebay we bought several years ago and rarely used. cost close to 4k sold it for miles less as outdated when compared with newer systems and not used for years but the 5 speakers blast out a sound second to none. I'm happy with the money as I was close to taking it to the charity shop

This was done unwittingly as two posters tried to attack me o a forum I unwittingly humiliated them in public:mrgreen:
A few years back I was going to sell a hi fi set I had built up, but thinking it would be too much hassle I took it to BHF. It was old but good, Rotel amp, Nakamichi cd , Pioneer turntable. They sold it almost straight away, and as I'd done a gift aid when I gave it to them, they asked me if I wanted the money as they make on the tax somehow. Told them to keep it as I may need their help one day due to the amount I smoked.
Today I've been out with the pooch, and once home I've been firing off stroppy complaining emails.

they asked me if I wanted the money
I get that a lot when I take stuff to the charity shop. I think it's because you refuse the money for items you give, they can then treat that money as a gift and claim an extra 25% gift aid from the Govt. I normally get a letter from them along the lines of "we raised £100 on the stuff you gave us. You can have the £100 but if you don't want it, we will treat it as a gift and claim an extra £25 on it".

I was hanging up my new suit and I found a few suits in the wardrobe that I'm never going to get into again so taking them down the charity shop. For sentimental reasons I'm still keeping my wedding suit - I must have had the hips of a snake when I got married - I can't even get the trousers past my thighs now and the jacket makes Norman wisdoms jacket look positively baggy!

Well, we went on our break to a cottage in Suffolk today. Booked it on cottages.com. Had it booked until Monday. Got in, unpacked and then looked a bit closer. Turned out to be a right dirty sh1t hole so we packed up, had words with the owner and are back home now. ****ing fuming.
