it is often said that the front runner in a tory leadership election never wins
that would be Sunak
the actual election will be performed by the small, mostly elderly, largely anti-EU, largely right-wing membership of the party scattered around the country. The people who chose Johnson.
the few hundred tory MPs will push the choice of only two onto them, usually offering one candidate they think the backwoodsmen will like, and one they think the backwoodsmen will not like. so in reality the MPs control the election and hence the result.
truss is a bit of an idiot but is favoured by the anti-EU Johnson wing

obviously you can't trust tories to tell the truth, but the projected results of a two-candidate final are interesting, and sunak looks like a loser in every case.

I thought Tom Tugendhat was highly impressive in the debate
All week political pundits have been saying how Penny Mordaunt would thrash the others in debate….but I thought she came across as a rather bossy rich women you might see arguing in a shop.

Come on, pick Boris's successor.
Truss or Mordaunt it would appear. I don't see either as 'statesmen' but at the end of the day, some good talk about a moratorium on 'green' taxes (hopefully for about 20 years), not increasing corporation tax, binning the NI increase but perhaps most importantly of all, a Boris 'continuation' government and a hard line with Europe.
What's not to like.
They are all too young to do the job.

Quite close to the way I seen it -
8/10 - Tommy Tugboat the clear winner (esp with his answer to "is boris a liar?")
7/10 - Sunak spoke well as he always does
4/10 - Badenoch, seems honest.
3/10 - Truss, far better than I expected, only one to mention wildlife, hence not coming last in my book
3/10 - Nautical Penny, my favourite until I seen her in action, very disappointing
More and more bad press about Mordaunt coming to the fore. It's hard to know if there's some truth in it, or if people are briefing against her to favour their own nominees. It's a slippery business and no mistake.
All week I’ve been hearing what a fantastic performer Penny Mordaunt is in the commons and in interviews, but in the debate she was not good at all.
I didn't watch the debate but as far as i can tell Mordaunt played a straight bat, not saying anything too much and making sure she's in the final two. The pressure's on Truss and you can tell. Her wooden speech at her leadership launch, getting confused about the concept of doors, and not doing anything in the debate to catch Mordaunt means the toxic lies of de Piffle have stuck to her.
All Mordaunt has to do is appeal to the Tory voters and rely on the backing of the Mail to get her over the line.
