Even Keir doesn’t want 'open borders' to help the NHS.

Bone up on your Irish history first, saves shooting from the hip and not knowing what your on about
Bone up on not changing your story when you don't like responses to what you actually said.

I was very disappointed by the lack of Brexers moving into the fruit-picking and winkle-collecting jobs.
They touched on this on a recent political tv show, maybe QT. A panel member said to the effect of 'at the end of the day, we need people to fill roles such as picking fruit, so if British people don't want to do these roles then ...'

Now the counter to that (by British people) is often wage related i.e. these people are brought in as cheap labour. So this is what I mean about we need to own the whole debate. If we feel these roles should be better paid (to entice British people into them) the consequence might be higher costs through the supply chain. So are we for example happy to pay more at the check-out? The answer to that might be yes, although I doubt it.

Send all the pesky foreigners home!!!
Emmm, we have a shortage of workers for these roles now.
Oops!

So this is what I mean about we need to own the whole debate

I find It ironic that the people who argue EU workers lowered wages are almost always are against the RMT strikes…where unions are negotiating for better pay and conditions.

If immigrant labour is able to lower wages because Supply and Demand is allowed to set wage rates…..then the root of the problem is lack of controls ensuring workers get fair wages. It is not the presence of excess Labour - that’s a symptom not a cause.

I am not bitter.
We now have a war in Europe, and a energy crisis as well, all because the of the EUs
Superpower ambition to spread the good news in Russia's forbidden Lawn.
Dats bolox.

we have a war in Europe because Putin invaded Ukraine.

Nothing bitter, i just wonder why, if Britain is the economic and social sithole you claim, why are so many foriegners risking their lives in small boats to access the benefits of this country.
They aren’t.

UKs asylum application per capita is way down the list, around 18th of European countries.

I hear some Albanians want to come here, maybe UK is a bit better than there

I wonder how vinty always manages to believe the opposite of the truth.

It's not quite the same as comparing it to the Irish Famine now, is it?
This article @MisesInstitute.org goes on to explore further causes of this grim period of Irish history and at no point does it mention the English government buying out the landed gentry, or the tenant farmers who grew potatoes as their staple crop while exporting the profitable grain out of the country.

We rank 4th on top destinations for illegal immigrants. Looking at refugee intake will always be skewed by countries taking in hundreds and thousands from their war torn neighbours.

It's to be hoped it doesn't go down the same route. It's's early days yet in the transformation taking place to save the planet and cutting back Irish farming by 30% is a significant loss given that Irish farming plays a leading role in their wealth creation. Can anybody predict where we'll be ten years time?
It depends on your sources who held the land, some reports trace some of the owners being from London.
Reading your link it does say agricultural land was owned by the English.

They do. Palestinians have been 'living' in refugee camps in Jordan since 1948.
We do have a very blinkered view on who deserves our help, don't we?

those aren’t included in the figures.

at the top of the list is Cyprus.

most European countries, including France, Germany etc are way ahead of UK.

I’m not sure what that means, is that a result of a poll?

asylum seekers aren’t illegal immigrants
