Whiteface

So from a Reddit post I just found a Senegalese guy explains it like this...

"that’s not paint it’s milk! Wrestling was done by our ancestors to celebrate harvest, so milk would be poured, and cattle would be sacrificed for the « spirits ». So it’s not about painting yourself white, it’s rather to celebrate our ancestors’ traditions."

That might have already been posted but seems it has nothing to do with mimicking white people, which blackface typically is, so the comparisons aren't apt. If they were doing it to insult or even mimic white people then I'd agree it was racist.

Or maybe it was nothing to do with racism, as has been explained previousky.

You are the 1 trying to make it into a racist issue. THAT is the double standards
Whether it was or wasn't anything to do with racism is irrelevant. Blackface is considered to be racist by current standards irrespective of the historic reasons or whether any malice is involved. Yet whiteface isn't judged in the same way, which is the double standard.

I am not trying to make it a racist issue, i'm highlighting the double standard.

All over Africa you find girls putting traditional white paint on their face because (they think) it makes their skin lighter and therefore more attractive. They don't know about the heavy metal poisons and organic carcinogens some of them contain. You see blotchy skin as a result.

I didn't say it was racist. I said how is whiteface not considered racist and the post was intended to highlight the double standards.
You asked how is it not racist ?

You are determined to make it a racial issue.

It isn't and wasnt.

You are doing your utmost to make a racial issue out of the white faces to support your prejudices.

There are lots of racial issues, both ways, this isn't 1 of them

Tony Blair made us all racists. Before he opened the floodgates we could happily make harmless fun of foreigners.

Said to represent a Moorish Pirate; the hat is of a turban style, white & trimmed with either red or blue ribbon alongside blue feathers and a rosette; the black polo neck woollen jumper worn above black velvet knee breeches is finished with white knee length socks and the footwear - originally said to be soft pirates moccasins - is replaced with traditional iron-shod Lancashire clogs, the footwear of the original Lancashire miners, finally ,each dancer has a set of “five nuts” similar to castanets and a white kilt with three horizontal red stripes completes the curious costume.

Must we now know the origin of all things at all times and everywhere just in case we are offending anyone?

I find it interesting to learn about a culture's rituals and traditions; especially my own culture.
When you visit a foreign land it helps to know the different values of that culture to avoid giving offence. An American living in Japan has a Youtube channel where he explains the very different social attitudes to life that surprised me. And their attitude to foreigners would be considered racist in this country. When in Tokyo...
