Core drilled through end of Lintel & metal showing

Perhaps try ringing the council building control department and asking them to look at it.
BC are not arbiters of quality.

Brickwork not tied
Courses misaligned
Lintel looks very unconventional (plastic clad?)
Looks like a generic vent rather than an extractor duct, and is upside down
Is there any cavity insulation? No signs of it in the photos
Nothing above would interest BC.

Ball o fix valves on central heating pipes are an accident waiting to happen. Burying them in the wall even worse. Condensate pipe from boiler should be inch and half outside and regs now require it to be insulated to help prevent it from freezing. I can see you falling out with the builder. Try softly softly approach first and reason with him. Good luck.

Gosh, that's ugly. I think I'd have had a recirculating hood rather than putting that vent there. That stack could be reconfigured too with a double branch rather than using that nasty 45 degree one, which would mean the rest of the wastes could be tidied into a bossed connection below it

As for what to do about the blindingly obvious pigs ear of a brick column beside the window, a better brick match and alternating headers and stretchers would do wonders. Or rending it up with coloured render and carve some lines in so it looks like stonework maybe

Thank you to you all for your advice re. Radiator. Relayed this info back to builder & he is going to get a different plumber in next week to look at the radiator.

Brick work .... builder has said will check with the bricky (all subcontractors) who done it to see if tied in wall. If I'm unhappy with it will get it toothed for me.

Extractor .... Builder has sent someone out this morning. He is going to see about the suggested fixings from Screwfix. He will look into fixing Plastic piping rather than the expanding ducting.
He suggested chipping away about 1/2 inch into lintel and either cut off bit of metal which is showing or bend it to fit pipe throw. Will cement pipe in.

All sound good to you ?

Added couple pic's .. inside hole in Kitchen and outside

I can now see, your next door neighbour has a similar hopper, to the one you have, and that both of your toilet soil pipes discharge into that one shared pipe. The whole arrangement is a complete mess, though it seems nowt to do with your present builder.

Yes, I would insist on that wall being properly toothed in, just to ensure that lintel has the proper support it needs.

I would also start another post in the plumbing and drainage section, in regards to how best to sort out those white pipes, for a tidy layout, again it seems not to be your builders responsibility, other than he maybe could have offered to sort the mess out, rather than compound it. The 'other' plumber, might be able to propose something to tidy it up too, but it certainly needs more work.

The story on the radiator sounds confused, so I will not add to the confusion by commenting on it.

Thank you again Harry for taking the time to write (im grateful for everyone's help) ...I have taken on board your advice.

I will ensure the wall is toothed in by the window. Do the brick work for the back door need to be toothed in as well ?

On the inside of the window frame behind the bricks is just a wooden frame and hardboard approx 200mm width.. do this need bricking up or fine as it is ?

I forgot to mention Insulation between the walls- builder said will check this out too.

The chap who's here now on further investigation said he will not take out anymore lintel. He is going to cement it in and find another way of installing the correct piping and extractor vent. I will keep you posted

I will start a new thread for the plumbing.

Thanks again !!!

Brick on outside

It should not be hardboard, it should be plasterboard and I'm not seeing any sign of any insulation at all. Others might be able to recite the actual regs on proper insulation.

So is what I am looking at this.
The yellow being the concrete lintal.
The red to hole cut into it
The green the original brick support.
Or is the green support not taht wide

hole.JPG

Or is it like this so the green brick that was the support is not doing much as the lintel above has been cut away and now the white space is the main support which consists of untied brick and 2x3 with hardboard.

Lets hope I've got it totally wrong and its plasterboard ! (My obvious lack of building knowledge)

I never seen any insulation ... Ive checked all my pics too. I assume nothing can be done now
