What size is the wire from consumer unit to cooker switch

Just to add a 'disclaimer' :) .... that table from our wiki which you posted is the one which I created and put there - but I thinkit is roughly correct :)
And one which I have sent to several people to identify a cable size with total success, prior to me going to site

Thanks for all your replies I very much appreciate it . I’m fitting a new range master range cooker which the book states must be wired with 10mm2 cable max . I measured mains wire and it’s like 4mm and on a 32A RCD at consumer unit . I would imagine you can’t use a 10mm cable to a 4mm one and the lad that delivered it says it has to be on a 45A RCD at consumer unit with the 10mm . Thanks again

Nonsense. What size is 10mm² max.?

If you mean MCB, then that might be good for coking appliances up to 20kW depending on installation method.

You could if circumstances allow it but that would mean the 10mm² was not required.

and the lad that delivered it says it has to be on a 45A RCD at consumer unit with the 10mm
More nonsense.

Many flats have their total installation on 10mm² cable.

Could you send a picture of the manual or a photograph?

Don't rely on his info he's only the delivery driver!

I measured the wire at 4mm and it’s the range master classic deluxe , in the book it says to use 10mm Max ?

Manual from the makers' website https://www.rangemaster.co.uk/contact-support/user-guides/all?title=&pid=102 S ee diagrams 9.11 and 9.12 on page 35 in particular.

The 10 sq mm is merely the biggest that the terminals accept... removing the link supplied reduces the capacity to 6 sq mm for a 3-phase 400V installation (weirdly the manual says the same earth terminal capacity reduces to 6 sw mm, too!).

From Page 42:
Maximum total electrical load at 230 V (approximate total including hob, oven lights, oven fan, etc.): 16.24 kW

Which by my sums would be nearly 71 Amps - but allowing for diversity is 10A + 0.3 x 61 A = 10+18.3 = 28.3 A... so within a B32 MCB rating. Unless the cooker is fed from a switch with a13A socket; in which case the + 5A extra tips it over.

I'll leave it to the experts to state what cable sq mm is required / desirable (as it will depend on install cable length and method).

Ok. Found it.

Also from page 35.

So as you say the 10mm² max is just the physical size that will fit the terminals.

Therefore with method C cable installation and no socket on the switch, a 32A and 4mm² circuit will be satisfactory.

The wire from the consumer unit to cooker switch going with the vernier I used is 4mm that’s the actual wire not the covering . Thanks for the replies I very much appreciate it

I take it you didn't measure the bundle of 7 strands together as 4mm:
