What size is the wire from consumer unit to cooker switch

Hmmm, let me see now; MI being minimum 6mm² & 45A MCB, for an 18KW range,
Diversity came up with <32A so fitted with 4mm² and B32A MCB by a NICEIC electrician found on Trust a Trader.
Customer calls electrician as MCB keeps tripping, he returns and stated in written report it has been installed correctly and there must be a fault with the range.
Manucturer called in and tests the range and written report say not installed to their instructions and included the invoice (within their T&Cs) for the incorrect callout

Where to next?

No I don't believe so, well unless you call working within the electrical industry bad luck.
Despite your anecdotal experiences, I would think that it is probably incredibly rare for 'failure of diversity' to result in any problems of any sort in a domestic/residential setting.

Rare or not I've had 3 tripping issues (of which one was a personal experience in a new build and my dinner was delayed) and one over heated cable.

AS I've said, I'm very surprised, but I'm obviously not disputing the fact that you've had such experiences. However, as EFLI said, I think it really must be regarded as 'bad luck' (or, of course, inappropriate application of diversity), since I've heard few, if any, reports of even single events from anyone else.

Fair comment.

In that order?
Overheated cable was 7/0.044 on 35A fuse included a 13A socket used for the kettle, that particular one was discovered in the FB during other works but the tell tale was the damaged emulsion & discoloured wallpaper and chasing the route of the cable was easy.
