Hello everyone, coming across this forum to post a thread on the electric forum, I’ve seen a lot of political discussions here, and I know nothing about politics.

Could someone educate me about the UK political system, how it works and what is currently going on. and what exactly are meant by the common terms, I.e, right and left wing.

Thank you in advance.

Great post! But where to start? It's a massive question.

An interesting point we were discussing earlier today, before the thread got deleted, was that the political term Liberal means very different things in Britain and the USA.

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest, I’m not sure myself - I don’t even know how it works.

Not really as I come from the overseas.

What sort of government is there in the country you come from. Is it a democracy. It might help to compare the system you are used to with the system in the UK.

Pakistan and I’m sure there is a difference compared to UK.

I am sure there is! But it looks like Pakistan is, in theory, a parliamentary democracy. There are elections for MPs and there is a prime minister. I know there have been several long periods of military rule. But the underlying system seems similar to the UK. Here, the King is the head of state. In Pakistan, I assume it is the President.

Thanks for the information. So, how can I educate myself in this field? How can I grasp a modicum knowledge of the UK political system which then would enable myself to learn more in depth.
