Totally predictable: Trump discusses giving land to Russia

Because they know they are dealing with a lying grifter who cannot be trusted to keep his word. We and the EU have given Trump everything he asked for. We have massively increased defence spending, agreed to pay for all the US military supplies, agreed a bad temporary trade deal. All to keep him on side over Ukraine. And then Trump turns around and sh1ts on us all once again.
Its not a bad thing to now realise that America won't be bailing us out everytime because we cannot stand on our own two feet. increasing our defence budget and developing our own weapon systems is a good outcome.

It’s not that simple

America didn’t become the worlds biggest military for altruistic reasons, it did so for power and influence.

However I am quite happy for America to be isolationist, the rest of the world is already starting to reorder global supply chains cutting out America

NATO would clear out Russians from Ukraine in a day…..probably be back in time for an early pint.

Russian soldiers are now just farm labourers or convicts

A Ukrainian soldier has this to say about all the hot waffle served up over the weekend.

“What’s the point of giving up Donetsk [region] to Russia?” he says. “After all the sacrifices we have made, the people we have lost? If we were going to do that, we could have done it right at the beginning of the war.”

No amount of syrup can be poured over the dog's breakfast Donald is making of this.

It is true, but a lot of blood has been spilt on both sides and you could argue the same principle towards Russia too. If Putin gave it all back, how could he explain the point of the invasion in the first place. There has to be compromise on both sides unfortunately. Now he is there it is going to be too much of a war again to actually remove them. It isn't right what he has done to invade but he has and there is no point in trying to get him to surrender and walk away, that is unrealistic and not a long term solution.

I see the thoughts are of squadrons of US tankbusters and the rest of that.
I'd be thinking in terms of vast numbers of drones of various capabilities.
No boots and no blood for the defenders, whatever their flag.

Tanks become ridiculously expensive, meatware ridiculously vulnerable. Who's going to use those old things?
Tech, methods and tactics are evolving rapidly. E.g. there's a system to deploy a net at 1000m height in seconds, fibre-optic drones bypass radio interference, carrier drones carry release smaller drones near the front. There are focused microwave disruptors, personal "DroneDefender" RF pistols,, buckshot munitions, and on and on.
