Raynor the tax dodger

When I bought my house the solicitors worked out my stamp duty and added it to their fees, I just assumed they got it right, did she do the same?

Our son is in the process of buying his first home. He’s had to tick boxes and sign a document - so it’s his information that the solicitor will be using. The solicitor won’t do it without information from him

Probably, but they say it was all based on the information she gave them.

So, they may have asked her if any child had a house in trust. And she might have said yes, but she had been advised it didn't count for second home purposes.

But we don't know exactly what they asked her.

Yes we do the firm told her to sort any tax owed out herself with her tax advisors

I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. I've just been reading again what they said.

They say that they calculated and paid the stamp duty. But based on the information provided by Rayner.

Managing director Joanna Verrico said: 'We acted for Ms Rayner when she purchased the flat in Hove. We did not and never have given tax or trust advice. It's something we always refer our clients to an accountant or tax expert for.

'The stamp duty for the Hove flat was calculated using HMRC's own online calculator based on the figures and the information provided by Ms Rayner.

'That's what we used and it told us we had to pay £30,000 based on the information provided to us. We believe that we did everything correctly and in good faith. Everything was exactly as it should be.'

Initial statement from them I read didn't mention they had paid it just said that they tell people to get their own tax advice.

.
.so she is saying she got advise from conveyancing firm and two tax lawyers. So is she lying and trying to throw a small firm under the bus if so regardless of tax owed she needs to resign
