Junction box and outdoor festival lights

We had a full house renovation last year and one of the requests was for an outdoor socket for festival lights for the garden. In our last house we had them wired in and we used an internal light switch to turn the on/off, but this time we've had a Wiska combi 308 junction box installed instead (our fault not explaining fully what we wanted)

We haven't as yet put them up because we need to be able to switch them on/off. What, if anything, can we do to allow us to do so.....? Is there a remote controlled adaptor that would work? Can an internal light switch be wired to the junction box and fitted?

Zero electrical knowledge if you cant tell, just don't want to waste an electricians time coming round to discuss.

I do see the problem, I have three double socket outlets for items used outside

but there is not enough room under the lid to fit a smart socket adaptor

or power pack

so two plug in inside the house, so I can fit timers, etc. and a lot of my outside lights use smart bulbs.

We see ideas

that do give us more room, as to why one would want an RCD plug in an outside socket I don't know, should be RCD protected anyway, but it shows there is extra room inside.

But in your case, it depends on where it is fed from. It may be one of these

can be fitted inside the consumer unit (new name for fuse box) so there are loads of options.

You can buy smart switches, which would fit inside that box, able to be switched by Alexa.

That's the key. That looks like armoured cable. It may be run direct to the consumer unit with its own breaker and/or a separate switch. It shopuld be fairly obvious.

As this was a

full house renovation

there should (must) be an installation certificate for the electrics. That often can give the answer to many questions.

If it doesn't come from the CU, then you could put a suitable Quinetic wireless switch receiver on the end of the SWA, wiring a socket to the output.

Then fix your wireless Quinetic switch inside wherever you want, assuming there are no pipes or cables in the way.

If the kit won't fit in the back box of the external socket, then fit a suitable junction box big enough to fit the Quinetic kit in place of the Wiska, then put a socket next to it.

Like this one on my house.
