Absolutely spot on. Pity you didn’t knock him to the ground but I think he learnt a lesson all the same. Only way to deal with these thugs. Give em a good hiding.

Criminologist studies on deterrence show otherwise.

IIRC there is a way of calculating deterrence.

Results must be certain, personal, and immediate.

Penalty of death is not enough.

For example:

"If you smoke cigarettes, then in 30 years time, you might suffer a long, slow and agonising death from lung cancer, leaving your wife widowed and your children fatherless"
Didn't work.

"If you smoke a cigarette in this bar, you will be thrown out. If you smoke a cigarette in your workplace, you will be sacked."
Worked.

Also for example:
If you get caught trying to pinch something, you won’t get off with a warning or a slap on the wrist. You’ll get clobbered. That worked for me, they've never been back. For all I know, they may have decided to call it a day. :mrgreen:

So "If you are found to have stolen tools you WILL go to prison for the rest of your life" would have no deterrent effect?

You have to add "you will definitely be caught the same day, swiftly prosecuted and imprisoned"

Not much chance of that.

If you add "you will probably not be caught" it won't work.

Hence my earlier question.

Well mottie did. They would rather have had the police tell them off instead I am sure.
 
The great thing about being built like a truck and being insanely good looking is that I have two looks. One is as a ruthless killer and intimidating to even glance at me but then I have a side and a look that women just melt into my arms. A lot say that have it all and who can blame them.
