Starmer abandons plans to cancel local elections.

As the PM is/was a lawyer it seems reasonable to conclude that he knew this was unlawful from the start, he just didn't think anyone would challenge him.
Nonsense. Fifty per cent of cases fail.
All good for reform.
We’ll see, touting local elections as a referendum on the state of the country doesn’t fill potholes
Do the labour party have no limit to just how terrible a leader they will endure?
The one that won a huge majority. I’m no fan of Kieth but he is showing signs that he is a fighter.
Cue the muppets saying waa waa the government didn't choose to delay elections
Of course they chose to delay the elections for a proper reason, as have previous governments when reorganising councils. Your conspiracy theory that reorganisation took place to weaken the re form vote is delusional.
it was all due to reorganisation bla bla bla.
The biggest and quickest in local government history

Not sure I agree with that.

We were denied our local elections last year and this year they are going ahead BUT our local councillor says the Surrey changes are causing issues and will do for years. So delaying local elections delivers nothing.

By reversing the cancellation of the elections he’s stepped into the ring with Re form rather than let the story drag on for years

I’m not a fan of unitary authorities, they take decision making further away from local people, but don’t necessarily save money because the big services end up being shared. A quick google of Surrey suggests one of the new unitaries will be bankrupt from day one.
Hence the much wider scale of elections being cancelled. It’s happened many times before but hasn’t been on the radar for the unaffected two tier authorities.

More importantly I do think that if an MP wants to change the party it represents then a bi-election must be held so their constituents have their say
This would almost immediately stop defections. But at the end of the day we vote for the person. When it comes to the PM. They should get no more than 12 - 18 month before having to do the same.

It's a good job we've got Reform. Other parties moaned about it, none of them actually solved the problem.

Reform are now effectively being the people's representative, against an oppressive government.
