tidesThere are or were other factors, e.g. weather, tides, variations in beach patrols, launching from Belgium, etc.
Depends what other conditions they are combined with.do you think these change year to year significantly?

Tides are primarily caused by the moon and the sun. They do not change year to year. They also move mostly left to right (flood) and right to left (ebb) in the channel. They only briefly head south on the turn.Depends what other conditions they are combined with.
Tidal currents can be favourable or unfavourable so yes, it can make a difference.
Glad we got that cleared up then...are you seriously trying to suggest the above is a claim that
"the RNLI is to blame for the spectacular rise in immigration"

Combined with weather and other events the combination of tides- weather - other events can make a difference.Tides are primarily caused by the moon and the sun. They do not change year to year. At the shortest point the crossing is approx 18 Nm at the preferred crossing point it’s around 22 Nm.
At an avg SoG of 4-5kts we have a crossing time of 5~6 hours. Assuming you were completely clueless and picked the worse possible time to cross your crossing would be impacted by 1-2 hours.
There are no scenarios where we have a “bad” tide year or a “good” tide year which might impact the numbers.

Weather - yes we agree this makes a difference. For example the direction of the wind and if it is going in the opposite direction to the tide. "wind over tide".Combined with weather and other events the combination of tides- weather - other events can make a difference.
A little footnote for filly to scribble in his book, Saling for Dummies, and for you for your future safety at sea.

Migration and illegal migration are different things.Glad we got that cleared up then...
So since they are not to blame whether the figures go up or down, why are some still having a go at them for providing a 'taxi service', and petulantly stopping donating to them?![]()

Yes when Covid was on. The tides dropped dramatically and nobody could cross.tides
do you think these change year to year significantly?

You're saying the weather is always the same at the same time each year?Weather - yes we agree this makes a difference. For example the direction of the wind and if it is going in the opposite direction to the tide. "wind over tide".
However, this does not make a difference from one year to the next.
Well you seem to be under the impression that wind and tides are the same, at the same time each year. We all know, and so do the National Ocean Service that to not be true. And it was Filly that showed his book. If that book suggests that tides, weather and currents are always the same at the same time each year, I would suggest the title of the book is incorrect. It should have been entitled "Sailing, by Dummies".Given he's done the YM Theory course and exam, I suspect he is aware.
Weather can temporarily negate or completely overwhelm the effect of the tide. Through a phenomenon called a storm surge, strong winds and changes in atmospheric pressure can push or pull large volumes of water, altering sea levels by a meter or more and completely masking the usual rise and fall of the tide.

In what category do asylum seekers appear?Migration and illegal migration are different things.
They don't assist them, they rescue them. There's a difference.Providing a service to assist illegal small boats, encourages them to come.
Under what scenario would a Boarder Force skipper be prosecuted? If support was exclusively left to boarder force finding a "skipper" would be harder, given the likelihood he would be identified for prosecution.
Waffle and nothing at all to do with what I said.Tides are primarily caused by the moon and the sun. They do not change year to year. They also move mostly left to right (flood) and right to left (ebb) in the channel. They only briefly head south on the turn.

They, along with the border force are a contributing factor for illegal migration and asylum seekers. They are Enablers. Nobody, and I do mean nobody, in the small boat arrival figures have made it to our shores in a small boat for bloody years. They absolutely know they don’t need to. They only need to make it to around the halfway mark so let’s not pretend otherwise. If a lorry driver gave asylum seekers the same assistance as the French police, the RNLI and the border force do, they’d be fined £10k per asylum seeker. So since they are not to blame whether the figures go up or down, why are some still having a go at them for providing a 'taxi service', and petulantly stopping donating to them?
