Anglepoise lamp bulb socket replacement Help

i need advice on replacing my Anglepoise type Lamp socket replacement.

The lamp is over 20 years old and when I put a bulb in it flashes as its not getting a proper connection.
Its a bayonet type fitting. I think the plastic in the bulb lamp socket has gone brittle with age.

I checked the plug etc and its all O.K.

What sort of socket do I need to replace it?

Here are some pictures of the lamp. It has a switch on the middle in the back where the holder is screwed in shown in picture 2.

Seem to remember the diameter of bulb holder was larger than normal, seem to remember ikea did the larger bulb holder.

Have you tried lifting the terminals up a little

As well as lifting the terminals slightly if you could give them a gentle rub with very fine sandpaper or wet and dry that would help

Have you tried a different bulb?

Lots of cheap imports have small circular connections whereas decent ones have oblong shaped connections

Lampholder terminals don't appear too shabby - could possibly be the switch contacts as much as the lampholder and/or lamp.
Try other lamps to see if it's, as suggested earlier, the lamp rather than the holder...

Ask Anglepoise for the parts to fit your specific model to repair / upgrade if necessary?

Dismantle the switch and check/service its contacts.

No joy it tried the connection thing it did no good.

Then when I tried again and put the bulb back in a bit broke off the holder and it was discoloured and brittle.

Were would I get a new bulb holder? Its not an official Anglepoise just that type.

I think you will struggle to get a replacement the same as that one unless you know the manufacturer. Perhaps if you posted a pic of the old lamp assembly someone might be able to suggest how to modify it. Other than that there seem to be plenty of cheap desktop lamps available with a google search.

If you CAN find a new bulb holder which will fit, good luck.

Since parts of the existing bulb holder have broken off,
it is most likely that it is embrittled and needs to be replaced.
However, if we had a picture of the disassembled parts of the existing "device",
and how it is connected to the push-button switch,
it may be possible to suggest a way in which some available bulb holder could be modified to fit .
(By the way, is the switch working properly or does it need replacing also.)

After all, it is only the external plastic parts which may need to be modified - not the internal "electricals".

I believe that I have mentioned before on sites such as this,
"now-a-days" there is much that can be done with readily available plastic components.
Epoxy Resin, filing, drilling
and a little imigination.

Look for BC (bayonet connector) B22 lampholders... and try to match pics / fixings etc.,. to the one you have..

Or you could replace with an Edison Screw ES type if desired.

Likely it'll be simpler/easier to buy a new Anglepoise lamp (maybe with the possibility of spares when required from the real brand).

The rest of that fitting, if plastic, is likely to be brittle and fall to pieces in the near future (especially if long term heat damage from incandescent lamp use has occurred).

I decided in the end to just get a new free standing one. At least bits of it will go to recycling.

Hence, it is a pity that you could not make the (possibly) small effort to not increase that which may turn out to be LANDFILL.

I took out the screws that held it and looked inside with a torch. There was no way that I could see how to detach the holder though from the wires. There were no screws or clips visible. Most of the lamp will be recycled as its made from aluminium. I also kept the weight part and the springs. You can only try your best I m not an electrician.
