Starting to get ready to Join my ship on Sunday, Travel to Southampton tomorrow, Hotel for the night in Southampton and then escorted to our Suite along with the other rich and famous people who are traveling in a suite. Then the normal everyday passengers can board and make their own way to their cabins. I won't be hosting a sail away party as normal this year as not really in the mood in my circumstances, We will be raising a glass to my best pal who passed a couple of days ago. Don't like the idea of a cruise my problem with them is that you get off the boat at a tourist port and all 5,000 of you head to the same - cable car or whatever and wait 3 hours. Do the one thing and head back to the boat and then claim afterwards that "we have been to xyz"
Rows of taxis ready to rip you off - turn up on masse and be flogged tat by the tat sellers waiting for you. And they all hate you.
Previously frozen food served on the boat.
If I am visiting a place near a big port and I want to visit that town I always make an effort to pick a day when a cruise ship is not in port.

I’m guessing you haven’t been on a cruise? That’s nothing like cruises I’ve been on and I’ve been in ports when there’s 3 or 4 cruise ships in. For a start, apart from it not being compulsory to get off when in port (many don’t), I’ve never seen 5000 people get off the one ship to do the one thing. Yes, some places can be more touristy than others but that’s no different from hundreds of other non-cruise places in the world - if it’s nice, people will want to see it. Not everyone wants to go and live in a hut on stilts in the Maldives for a fortnight. Look up some cruise destinations and then look at the excursions availible for those ports, there’s dozens of different options. Try one, you might like it. (y)

give one a go mate, I thought exactly the same as you before I did one. It is honestly nothing like what you imagine.
 
Watching cruising with Jane Mcdonnald was enough to put me off - is she on every cruise.
Some more things that put me off. I dont like the idea of having to book every restaurant and show before I have even got on the boat. I dont like the idea of having to pay a gratuity before I have set foot on the boat.
The drinks packages cost a fortune.

On Princess cruises all of that is taken care of if you get the drinks package, it is great value. We tip our own suite staff as an extra but that is all.
