Just been watching this...

Sheffield...cops arrive at house where lead is being stripped from a roof...A van is stopped just down the road by four cop cars...full of similar lead flashings value around £400.
Driver arrested...The next day they didn't have proof it was him nicking it...so he got done for receiving.

He got fined £105....they must be trembling in their shoes these thieves....what a pathetic joke the law is in this country.

Biggest problem with lead thefts from roofs , is the fact that the thieves might get £100 for the lead, but the owner of the property it came off, is landed with a bill for thousands. (even replacing it with a non lead alternative)
About time the courts handed out meaningful punishments. Automatic fine of £1000 for metal theft and seizure of assets, 6 lashes of the birch and a long drop with a a short rope round their neck.That'll show em. ;) ;)
 
School near me had copper hopper and downpipe! It was covered by a camera, you had to scale a fence with anti climb paint. The guys got caught with the paint on them, copper in there car! They didnt charge either os they couldntbdetermine which one actually took it as the camera couldntbget a clear picture. Crazy!! :cry:
 
Yep Handy, The courts are far too soft on almost any crime these days. I have noticed a big difference in sentencing , even over the last 6 yrs. Sentences are either getting shorter, or opting for community sentencing, for crimes which used to attract a few years inside (and the government/s wonder where it's all gone wrong.)

As discussed inthe school thread, it comes down to the liberal minded do-gooders and their blinkered outlook that criminals have Human Rights. What? Don't the victims have them as well? Apparently not!

The thieves only have to say they are supporting a drug addiction, then everything is ok, they are let off, no wonder this country is going down the pan

Conny, you should have realised after all these years,,, Victims never had rights in the Criminal Justice System.
 
What is needed here is for cash payments at scrapyards to be stopped.

Payment should be made electronically to clearly identifiable bank accounts only.
