Panic buying

Went into Sainsbury’s tonight, no pasta, no rice..
Same here. Even no bread flour or yeast. All I ended up with was the last packet of OO grade pasta flour. Never made it before but my daughter bought me a pasta cutting machine a few years ago so I’ll have to dig that out and give it a go.

So, is "panic buying" now turning into "buying a larger amount of whatever food you can still get before it all runs out" ??

I notice that the mob in my parts of the world are only clearing the shelves of the cheaper brands, and leaving the products that are a tad more expensive.

I will start to worry when the £3.99 hand sanitiser starts to go, and the Cushelle Ultra Quilted is selling.

The supermarkets are not helping the situation.
My wife and I visited one today looking for hand sanitzer.
The empty shelf had a sign stating "only 6 bottles permitted per customer"
So if they did have any, they would permit us to purchase 12 bottles!!
Crazy

Chatting to the lady at my local Holland and Barrat today. She said people had wiped them out of multivitamins etc in the shop. Then she went on to tell me that her sister, with a one month old baby, was unable to get the formula she needed, sold out everywhere, including amazon. FFS, people are really cruddy.

What is panic buying?

Every one buying the same thing at the same time???

Hoarding is that not different?

Yes that. My sister was doing it yesterday and has stock piled enough food for 3 weeks.
I said is there something wrong with you? Said she has 4 mouths to feed.
I said so what? so have other people.
What happens when the sensible folk not panicking go in to buy just one loaf?
You can really see the true selfish nature of people coming to the surface now.

On the other hand, she has 4 mouths to feed.
So as there is already a shortage and more shortages to come as this situation gets worse (thats official according to the government)- she is just stocking up when she can with what she can so that her family can continue
to be fed when things get worse - and they will.

I stocked up in Ministroni soup today, 4 tins of it - not had it in years but I though "sod it" lets have some for when we have nothing else :)
Oh that and the shelves were empty of most other choices of food.

I heard somebody today said while in the supermarket they had a 4 pack of loo roll in their trolley -when they got to the till to pay, some herbert had robbed it out of the trolley.

we're down to 3 rolls left, will be tearing up newspapers by the end of the week. Could ask a neighbour, but what happens if they flip, may be it's not the done thing at he moment? don't want to loose a good neighbour.

Supermarket had none this afternoon, man at checkout said they had had some and someone had tried to buy £100 worth, apparently they made her put half of it back - so presumably that mean she bought 50 squids worth of it - how scared must she be.

I wonder if the plumbers merchants are having a Bidet sale?
