Is it worth replacing an old working boiler?

We have recently purchased a house with a system boiler + vented tank heating system, that seems like it's in pretty good order. Boiler is a floorstanding Potterton Kingfisher (42kw i think) and tank is a standard copper tank with insulation. The controls are a bit old so I could replace those...

Beam and block on upper floors

Is it possible install beam and block flooring on the 1st floor of an existing old house (build circa 1930's)?. Current house is going through a complete renovation, and we are looking into the posisbility of doing this. The idea is to create a floor with minimal bounce, and be able to lay wet...

    Texecom Keypad Garbled Text

I have ordered a new keypad. That is such a great idea to remove the 12v inside panel first! Cheers

    Texecom Keypad Garbled Text

I think I know the answer to this one - that I need a new keypad but thought i'd check. The keypad display is showing up as garbled on the 2nd line, and the number 6 isn't working. I was moving the keypad to another location, and I think i might have accidentally touched the live (red) wire of...

    Home Water Booster

Hi, We currently have a Grundfos Home Booster which is boosting water for the whole house (mains water flow rate is low). This has developed a leak so needs to be replaced or repaired. No idea how much a repair would cost, but wanted some advice on what options I have for replacing it. This...

    Hotpoint Aqualtis tripping circuit breaker

Wondering if you can help me troubleshoot our washing machine that keeps tripping the circuit breaker. I think some water got into the plug and that caused the circuit breaker to initially trip. Since then the machine does it continually - we've tried other appliances on the socket and they seem...

    Wintex Software

I spoke to Texecom and all sorted now. Glad to see they're not against the DIY installer, and were quite helpful. Thanks Chaps

    Wintex Software

Hi, Could someone kindly give me a copy of the latest Wintex software please? Have just ordered a 24 Elite panel but don't think it comes with the software. The texecom site only gives it out to registered installers. Ta!

Permission to raise roof height for loft conversion

Thanks. Yes, doing sums and cost of replacing the whole roof at the moment vs changing the existing. It won't really be worth doing the conversion if we can't get permission to increase the ridge height.

Permission to raise roof height for loft conversion

I'd like to do a loft conversion and currently have a 1.9m height in the loft from plasterboard of ceiling below to bottom of ridge. I'm thinking of putting in an application to increase the height of the ridge to 2.3m and have a rear dormer up to that level. What is the best way to approach...

    Boiler tripping electrics

Have a problem i'd like your advice on. Our boiler started tripping the electrics occasionally, and eventually blew a relay in the control centre (honeywell smartfit) - possibly a short circuit. I replaced the control centre and the same thing happened after about 20 mins of the boiler coming...

    Texecom GSM Com Issue

Hello, Have installed a GSM com unit into a Texecom premier 24 panel and am having an issue with it signalling out on an alarm condition. Sending it an sms for status returns an sms with the alarm status just fine (armed/disarmed), but it won't send out a SMS on an alarm condition. The ARC1...

    Texecom veritas

I fitted a Texecom Premier myself (DIY) and as said before reading the instructions thoroughly beforehand is a good idea. What I would do is run all the cables first and then work on connecting it all together. To keep it simple run 1 6-core cable from each PIR/sensor to the control panel...

    Vaillant Weather Sensor help

Interesting that at 25 degress it should be 2700 ohms where I was getting closer to 1000 ohms. Different sensor types? or maybe i'm measuring it incorrectly.

    Vaillant Weather Sensor help

Cheers! I managed to fix it Taking off a bit of the epoxy exposed a bit of the metal leg, so I soldered it back on and connected it back up - all works ok! My soldering skills aren't that great and it isn't that pretty but I think it should hold up. Outside temperature is currently showing as...

    Vaillant Weather Sensor help

Thanks for all your help - I looked through that site and I think I have a bit more understanding of it. The actual issue with the thermistor is that one of the legs has broken close to the thermistor - looks like it's corroded. There are markings on it if I peel back the epoxy a bit - the...

    Installing new vertical radiator

From my recollection the vertirad valve entry points are on the sides, not underneath, so you should be ok. Once you undo the nuts for lockshield/trv you should have a bit of play to be able to remove the radiator.
