Are there any changes to bathroom zones in the 18th?
The reason I ask is that my lad has just bought a house and due to me being not trained to the latest regs, not insured and not having certificated test equipment, he's getting a local spark to quote for work.
Three of the things the spark is unhappy with are the light fitting in the bathroom which he says is in Z2 and has an unsuitable IP rating.
The fitting is a metal plate with a screw on glass cover, very like this:
The fitting may slightly overlap the bath, but the ceiling height is 235cm.
If the ceiling height was lower, it would be Z1, not Z2 anyway, as the fitting is on the edge of the bath, if you draw a line up to it?
The second is a surface mounted switched FCU over the bath that is above 2.25m
Yes, I suppose you could stand up in the bath and operate the switch, but technically it is outside the zones.
The third is a pull cord for the light which my lad wants replacing. I haven't measured it; it may be in Z2 or it may be > 600mm from the edge of the bath. But still, the ceiling height is 235cm.
The spark wants to get rid and put a wall mounted switch outside.
I assume that 2.25m is still the cut-off point for the end of the zones.
If it is still current, why is the spark antsy about these three things that he says are not compliant?
