Almost 40 years today.

Ah shipworkers union who told my old man to stop using a yankee screwdriver as it was too fast and if he refused he would be off the ship and out of a job

would that be the steel industry that labour had already decided to drastically scale down in 1975 and hadnt got round to it before losing power
we better not mention wilson closing 253 pits to thatchers 115
or the number of railways closed down by the Beeching report.

Not to mention you could have someone's eye out.

Scargill didn’t care about miners, he wanted to bring the government down.

Thatcher had other ideas
Quite the contrary thatcher built up the coal reserves gave the police a pay rise and forced the num into a strike at the worst time for them. I know coppers who still vote conservative because of that pay rise. Thatch didn’t care about the mining communities she wanted to bring scargill down

Blup

Thatcher closed a whole mining industry down. We started importing more expensive polish coal.

yep dont let fact stand in your way
Wilson's closures were part of the post nationalisation review of small and uneconomic pits, thatcher just wanted to destroy the industry to get at the unions.

oh right so the thousands more that wilson put out of work up to 30 years later was post nationalisation
. as for post nationalisation was that not atlee who closed over 100 pits or do you not know when they were nationalised
in 6 years(64 to 70) alone under labour more than 212,000 miners lost their job doesnt sound like small pits

Yes all post nationalisation. Don't confuse statistics with the malevolent intent of thatcher.

Thatcher's attack on the NUM was an act of pure revenge for the downfall of the Heath government in the 70's which was brought about by the miners strikes which led to the three day week. Some tory ministers actually admitted this years later. She also believed that destroying the most powerful/militant union would weaken the trade unions in all industries, and indeed it did.

Today, the 31st of August 2023 is the last day members of the public can put in an objection to the Governments instruction to the train companies to begin closing all their ticket offices.

Before any one goes down the RMT are a shower of ****e route do try to understand that fully automated railway stations are not appealing to people who struggle to figure out all the different fare rates whilst standing in front of an automated ticket machine, with the pressure of a grumbling queue behind them and the thought that the £100 fine for over staying the 20 minutes allowed in the station car parking bay.

I think its not conducive to tourists who are trying to spend their money in our country, money this country needs.

What sort of a country do we want to be living in.

If nothing else contact your local MP and explain your concern.

He probably has a secretary to organise his travel arrangements so could be excused for not understanding how difficult it will be for a lot of the people who the Government are trying to get onto the railways.
