Any Vapers On Board ?

I'm late to the party, as usual.

I can't see what the poblem with giving up is.
I used to smoke for over ten years, from about fourteen to about twenty-six. (Used to use my dinner money and paper round wages to buy cigs, before I started work proper. That's how cheap cigs were in those days.)
I realised it was an expensive habit and it was no good for my health, so I stopped. Just stopped. OK, I admit it took me a couple of goes, but that was years before patches, tablets, or any other "treatment" was available.

I doubt if even the doctors were sympathetic to "giver-upers" in those days.

Some of my siblings still smoke, as do some of their children, despite having two cases of cancer in the family, (both smokers), one terminal.
One has dabbled numerous times with e-ciggies.

I'm sorry to say that when I was younger I couldn't/wouldn't consider or stay in a relationship with a partner that smoked.
I suspect I would still have that same approach to potential partners.

Congratulations on giving up but, regardless of your experience, millions of people do have a problem with giving up.

Sure there are many forms of cancer and other nasty's that may lurk around the corner for all of us at any stage of life.

My point is though if you smoke there is a 50% chance it will end your life prematurely, so continuing to smoke is IMO a blatant disregard for those left behind, when stopping will improve your odds drastically. Its not about being open minded. I've seen my father in law (59) and recently my mother in law (66) pass away both directly due to smoking even after she vowed to stop whilst sitting on her hubbys deathbed. He would have made an awesome grandfather and she was a super grandmother but they have lost out, the grandkids have all lost out not to mention the remaining two siblings, of which one continues to smoke, she has one son, she will be lucky to see his children at this rate and he will be left motherless before he should. Such blatant disregard for others. Disgraceful.

I'm not sure that posting horrific smoking related facts really helps, most smokers are acutely aware of the risks and implications.

With regards to your last comment... well, everybody takes risks.

I agree they are aware of the risks, however I suspect that many stick their head in the sand with regards to the implications, why else would they put their so called loved ones through such trauma?

Whilst (as previously mentioned) there are many diseases or nastys awaiting some of us at least 50% of the smokers reading this thread who do not give up will die younger than needs be because of it. They will not see their children grow older or grandchildren born/getting older or grow older with their other halfs, those grandchildren will not know their grandparents. I suppose all that smoking was worth it though and it is awfully hard to give up.

Because they have a physical addiction to nicotine - I'm certain the majority of smokers would stop if they could, indeed millions try, some manage it some don't regardless of how many times they try; showing horror pictures and declaring it disgraceful really isn't constructive and, unless you take zero risks in life, it is just a tad hypocritical.

This thread is about what appears to be a much healthier alternative to smoking so perhaps your comments would best serve a different thread.

Sorry, you edited after I'd quoted; with regards to added paragraph... Yes, we know.

You need to try harder then as the alternative is simply horrific.

I stopped smoking tobacco over 18 months ago.

The dental hygenist said that she wouldn't treat my gum disease unless I quit smoking - and all my teeth would drop out! :(

I bought an e-cigarette kit (a pair of GS-H2's with batteries, spare wick, charger and a case) and started using it on 12th Nov. '13. I haven't had a fag since and I smoked unfiltered Drum rollies for 35 years. I've even survived a motorbike club Christmas Party!

I still keep busy, making sure that I have fluid and a charged battery, and I have recently discovered the joys of rebuilding the coil/wick heads. I'm not really anal about it (variable voltage, mixing flavours, etc.) but am definitely enjoying it.

I understand all the holier-than-thou ex-smokers who "...used to smoke 60 a day and I just quit..." but I am not one of them. I'm great at quitting - I've done it loads of times! Whilst the e-cig might not be perfect, I have found it a great help. I'm not preaching it's virtues but I know plenty of others who are giving vaping a go.

One thing I did notice - my sense of smell improved. And the world smells of dog poop...

Congratulations for going so far.
I can't remember how long it took before my health and fitness visibly improved. (and fitness was visibly affected by smoking)
Certainly taste improved immensely.
I was coughing up rubbish for months after giving up.

I believe medical opinion is something like ten years to fully recover to a point as if you'd never smoked.

I believe that only applies if you've smoked for a maximum of ten years. If you have smoked for longer then you will always be a higher risk. Technically. :P

Thank you, I'm not nicotine free but hopefully the method of delivery is much, much less harmful than smoking and to date I can find zero indication that this not the case, certainly the two doctors I have spoken to personally were of this opinion, though to be fair it is early days so nothing is certain other than smoking tobacco is seriously nasty.

As a general comment, in my opinion... smokers deserve support and encouragement to stop, scare tactics and scorn don't work .
