Anyone know of a good quality waterbased satinwood paint?

I would'nt be temted to sand, providing that the overall finish is good you should only have to de-nib the surface. You can achieve this with warm water and a clean kitchen abrasive pad.

Nice one guys, great help as always.

OK, quick word on the Sikkens Rubbol BL Satura.

I can't speak for it's durability as I've only just painted it. However, in terms of finish, it is very flat and clean, unlike your usual water based paints with brush marks everywhere. If you have a clean, sound surface with no marks (new wood for example) you should be able to achieve an excellent finish with a good brush. Any surface imperfections are the only thing that will affect the finish, the paint itself is easy to work with, stays open for long enough and levels well. The Rubbol BL primer is recommended if you need one and I will use this when I need to do all the bare timber I have yet to do. As far as waterbased paint goes it seems to be better than your average where any brush marks instantly show.

Lots of good info in this thread.
Where can you get the Sikkens paints on the high street? I'm having a tough time finding it in the usual stores. I'm in the South Manchester area if anyone has any recommendations.

As joe-90 says Dulux Decorator Centre is your best bet but you can probably get it delivered online for cheaper if you can wait a couple of days. It is excellent stuff BTW, I've used it loads now, done a few houses in it and you can't tell it's waterbased, flows like oil and hardens really nicely in time. If you need a primer I recommend the Sikkens Rubbol BL Primer with it as well.

It's not the cheapest, but it has good coverage and is by far the best on the market.

Is it only available in high gloss or is there a satinwood finish? And any idea if they do tester pots to check foe colour

I don't think sikkens do any other colours than black or white or i would have suggested it in your thread, i would recommend Johnstones for what you're looking for

They sell the Rubbol yes. And the primer.

Ask in store if they will colour mix, they mix other brands so they might do the Sikkens as well. They might have colour card in store, if not, search on line, someone might deliver.
