Are back boilers illegal?

Hi, I read on a website that back boilers are illegal, I don't think this is true is it?

All lies, and a quick look at the rest of their website reveals plenty more.
All designed to show up in search results and then convince people that they absolute must buy a new boiler immediately.

If the boiler you have is working, keep it. If not, most can be repaired for far less than a new one.
When it fails and really does need to be replaced, call someone who actually knows what they are doing.

Back boilers are not illegal.

You wont likley be able to replace one with another these days, as you need to use a condensing boiler. While at least one company used to make a condensing back boiler, I don't believe they still do. So a replacement would in all likelihood need to be a hall hung or floor standing condensing boiler, Not necessarily a combi, but a condenser.

However if the back boiler is working safely at the time being then there is no immediate requirement to replace it.

Thanks guys, would I be able to cover the fire temporarily with something similar to those radiator covers?
Obviously remove it if it was going to be used.

No, The fire is part of the back boiler, and if the boiler is being used for heating or hot water the fireplace should not be covered in anyway.

As SGM says the answer is no and you can't paint or remove any part of the fire front either as it forms part of the flueway of the boiler...

It seems to me that some incorrect information is being given in this thread.

My understanding is that NO open flued appliances over 12.7 kW may be installed in any area used for sleeping.

If an open flued appliance of less than 12.7 kW IS fitted in a room for sleeping that that MUST be fitted with a device to shut it off if the POC level rises in the room. ( Oxypilot etc. )

But these regulations are often made more strict and it is possible that it has become more strict in the last few years.
