The well charred terminal also seems to have signs of corosion. Most likely due to moisture condensing out from steam / water vapour coming up through the fitting.

That might have led to a poor joint developing in the terminal block adding even more heat to the problem.

Maybe better that it condenses there than on the roof timbers where it will rot them.

You do with clipping up thos cables a bit. The tranny could be clipped to a joist with a spring clip or two. Clear away some loft insulation to prevent burning again & replace the fittings. Or at least, the SELV lampholders.

Same as at any other voltage (below that at which the insulation breaks down).
