My dad always wore a tie, from the instant he got up on a morning, he wasn't dressed, without it, along with belt, and braces.

A mate bought a house and had a housewarming. One of our friends realised that they had known the son of the previous (maybe previous previous) owners.
The whole house had been Bucknalled.
The staircase, fireplaces, all the doors were hard boarded. The house was 1850’s and eventually my mate managed to get everything back as it was.

Our staircase here, was 'Bucknalled' from new, by the builders. I took great pleasure in removing it all.

But how may were saved in the first place by being covered instead of binned? My dad covered all ours, which meant that the house retained its period doors when they came to be appreciated again.

Didn't happen with our newel posts, they were butchered to get plywood to cover them. In both houses I've owned!

The spindles were replaced with plain ones.
