Ceramic screws my ass - just use regular zinc coated. Forget the varnishing of battens too.
The advantage of the screws recommended by Knauf is that they're self-drilling, and form a very neat hole without wrecking the surface of the cement board.
However, you can get non-ceramic screws that achieve this - just ask at a drywalling supplier.
