Hi all

Just received an email from BG with the below included.

"With all qualified positions within British Gas you will be required to undertake a theory test and successful applicants will then attend an interview at a later date"

Any useful info and advice on the theory test. I'm assuming its just questions on the gas regs but with BG you never know -lol.

Many thanks.....

Ha,Ha, they are begging installers to sub - contract to them, Don`t think we had to pass any tests though. 8)

I've done some subbing for them in the past without a 'theory test'.

This is for a permenant contract.

My advice is dont do it

I hear nothing but bad things from my mates who work for BG (two of them left last week)

mind you that could just be the old trick of "if you have a great job and want to keep it, moan about it then no one else will want it"

;)

Hi undercover

Got a friend whos just started working for BG. Service fitting.

He says the moneys OK but not brill, and has to work on a rota including some weekends. He also has 'targets' (i think thats around selling??) to meet every month.

Plenty of paid overtime and perks like company shares, pension etc.

Not sure what the theory test is about though. I'm sure some BG guys who browse here will tell you / advise you.

Good luck

hi

after i booked in my assessment time for a servicing fitting role i then received the same e-mail as you. In fact it was sent to me 10 times :) I think the e-mail also states not to bring your gas tickets, cv etc.

Anyhoo i rang up the academy and they were'nt sure what this e-mail was  and advised me to bring all my tickets and everything else that you would bring to a face to face interview

If its just a theory test then read your Viper book before you go,if i remember correctly, its mainly ventilation, flues, tightness testing etc etc,in other words, pretty basic stuff which you should know.

so is it all open book then mate, should we take our own vipers to the interview?

I wouldnt, they just want to know you know the basics,as i said its all stuff that you should know anyway, without having to refer to a book.

So you think its also the interview. Emails are very misleading. I've received about 6 of them requesting me to book a 'slot'. One email says to print and complete a load of forms, the next says only copies as this is not the interview just the test.

Maybe like you Gasright i need to ring the academy. Good luck with yours by the way.

lol

pain in the butt isn't it.

I rang up the academy and they said fill in all the forms and bring them with you just in case as they weren't sure what was happening. Looks like it'll last for an hour only so in reality what sort of tests can you do in that time??

TBH i think it'll be a face to face interview only, where they'll check all your tickets and ask you normal interview questions

The Postcode for the academy where the interview is that was supplied was completely wrong also

With all qualified positions within British Gas you will be required to undertake a theory test and successful applicants will then attend an interview at a later date, you will therefore still need to confirm your intention to attend however you will only be required to bring copies of your qualifications along to this stage of the process.

The assessment day is designed to help you demonstrate your strengths for the role. During the interview there will be an opportunity to discuss the role and your application further.

The candidates who perform best during the assessment day are those who simply relax and be themselves. We do not try and trip you up or catch you out - it is an opportunity for for us to learn more about you.

2 out of the 6 different emails saying different things

exactly!

so best to play safe and take everything with you including your viper book (leave it in the car just in case)
