Hello, appreciate this might not be the right forum, but looking for some advice...

I just had a Vaillant ecoFIT pure 830 combi installed. It's all up and running after a bit of a faff (resolved with the help of this forum). That part is now fine.

However, when I agreed to the install, the installer told me that it came with a 7 year warranty (which was a key selling point), but it seems this is only the case if it's installed by a 'Vaillant Advance' installer. From what I can gather, he is not, so I am left with a 2 year standard warranty. I'm feeling pretty hard done by as I had other quotes I would have gone with to protect the boiler for longer. Unfortunately I don't have his quote in writing.

He has ticked the warranty card stating he is an 'Advance Installer' and signed it, but it seems if he was, he would need to register on his side for the extended warranty.

I have asked that he sends an invoice stating the works and 7 years guarantee before I pay. He just called to say, that's fine to send an invoice tonight, but on the guarantee 'that's nothing to do with me, I don't warranty the boiler, the company does'. He then went on to say he called the company he bought the boiler from and it's a 10 year warranty, but that it's between me and Vaillant, nothing to do with him. Thing is, without him being an Advance Installer and registering from his side, it's a 2 year warranty i end up with I think.

He wants paying. What would you do?

Have a look here and see if he's on it, if he is then you should get the warranty, if not then you could report him for false advertising and may be entitled to compensation. The warranty is held with Vaillant not the company he purchased from, so that in itself is a warning sign.

Unfortunately doesn't appear on that list.

Hmm, I'm not on that list either and I'm a Vaillant Advance Mastertech. Better have a word with my rep, but shows it's not definitive... here are the latest warranty details though

Thanks for the info. Would be be possible for me to ask the installer to sign up to Vaillant Advance? From what I can see it doesn't look like there is a cost involved. Or do you think that wouldn't be possible? Is there training or something else required?

2 year warranty for a boiler that price is a disgrace.
I take it like most manufacturers it doesnt cost anything to register with them not really your place to but i would tell him to get registered then register your boiler for 7 years

If he has stated he is a Vaillant advanced installer - by checking the box on the warranty card - then it's down to him to register the install with Vaillant through their Vaillant Advance portal, that is not something the client can do.

He's absolutely wrong there, as suggested, it's his responsibility to register the boiler on Advance Installer (AI) to obtain the extended warranty, no one else can do that and as also suggested it's got absolutely nothing to do with the shop where he got the boiler from. To register on the portal they do need extra quals apart from being GSR'd, MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) being one of them. If they don't hold that then they may not be able to register. BTW, as shown above, it's 7yrs for the basic extended warranty, only 10yrs if their mag filter was fitted, was it?

Phone Vaillant (0345 602 2922) just to get it from them and then you need to reply to him and tell you know that it is his responsibility to register the boiler with Vaillant for the longer warranty, no if's or buts, I hope you still have the warranty card?

Appreciate the feedback. It was installed yesterday. I was expecting 7 years warranty as that's what I was told. He didn't install the Valliant filter, he installed a Fernox TF1 Omega Filter. Valliant have said the same, I get 2 years now, and 5 additional when the installer registers.

I'm not sure what to do if he says no. He's gas safe registered, but not sure about MCS (is that only for heat pumps?). I haven't paid anything yet and he is still required to finish a few small bits we agreed (as part of a wider refurb).

I actually think he's done a good job with the install (from what I can tell), so it's a shame we have this issue.

Yeah the standard Vaillant Advance "membership" is just filling in a form. MasterTech requires a bit more effort

It's really up to you. If it was me and the boiler was sold to me, by them, on the understanding that it was to have at least 7 if not 10 years on the warranty then that's what I'd be expecting.

With that info straight from the Vaillant, I'd be passing that over to them and ask to explain themselves and what they are going to do about it. Could also possibly enquire, if actually possible, maybe via Vaillant, if it's possible to get the warranty extended, possibly by an inspection by say an Advance Installer. That would come at a cost of course, or an alternative boiler cover cost post the 2 years and exact a cost for that off the final bill if they won't sort it out.

Aren't these extended warranties also only valid if you have an annual service by a company approved engineer.
