It is also part of the Single Market, currently, and TM promised (but now reneged on that promise) to maintain regulatory alignment in NI, with the EU, to avoid a hard border.

"seems feasible" is not the same as "wants"
As you know, the EU has offered several other alternatives, all of which Theresa has turned down. Theresa's government has been unable to decide what it wants, and so has not offered a feasible alternative.

Your logic is skewed. It'll need to import people, rather than export them... if it wants a fast growing economy without enough people of it's own to drive it (which I don't believe to be the case)

Not necessarily. It depends on the factors of production land, labour, capital and entrepreneur.
India is not short of people. It's problems lie elsewhere.
China has a fast growing economy and what you think there net migration figures are.
The current government and previous chancellor growth required net migration. However that's not the only way to grow an economy.
