I never said that!Ukraine?
Is wanting to join the EU and Nato something to which "guilt" can be attached?
Just before Putin invaded I heard on The Jeremy Vine radio prog, a fellow rang in, A Brit claims he has lived/worked in Ukraine for the last 20 years or so.
If I remember it rightly, the gist of what he said was Western Ukraine had European type machines, cars etc and thought of themselves fairly European in their outlook.
The Eastern, Northern and Southern parts of Ukraine had Russian type machines, cars etc and thought of themselves as pretty much Russian with their outlook, often visiting Russia etc to meet up with friends and relatives.
They all seemed to get on reasonably well without any major problems and all parts thought of the situation as sort of normal.
When some started to appear for a push towards Europe etc it caused some fears against it.
This push was seen to be greatly encouraged by western poloticians.
It worried Putin and others and he did something about it, despite pleas by many to not do so.
Now we have that absolutely terrible war.
Ukraine is suffering and so is Russia (how many Russian mothers are grieving they will never see their sons again).
It is a terrible loss for all concerned.
A war is a failure, there is never an outright winner in any war. It should always be avoided to the highest degree possible.
Is Putin to blame? yes probably about 90% or so I might think so.
Are others blameless? No not all of them completely.
the UK is not at war with the USA, yet we still have to deal with Trump, is that not bad enough for anybody to contemplate?
