Budget

It’s very tough being a business when costs go up, cash flow disappears and it becomes a struggle to pay the bills each month.

But unfortunately that is exactly what has happened to people: wages have stayed static whilst costs of rent, energy, have all gone up. We now have millions of people that can’t afford to heat their homes, and millions that can’t afford to get enough to eat.

Are you saying that you prefer people to suffer just so long as businesses don’t suffer?

I accept that employers national insurance rise + rise in minimum wage has made it difficult for businesses…..but do you accept that the govt needs to raise more money abd has to get it from somewhere. If so, where did you want taxes to rise?

The mess the economy is in, is the mess the Tories made, they put permanent damage in place to business competitiveness with Brexit and then they just ran down the clock leaving prisons, NHS, public sector pay rises, strikes, unfunded tax cuts, budget shortfall all outstanding for the next govt to deal with.
What government seems to forget is that when businesses suffer to the degree they are at the moment, employees suffer too.

What i don't accept is that the government needed to raise taxes as much as they have. I have to try to run my business based on my costs. If costs go up, i look to make savings before passing on a price increase as if i increase prices i know i run the risk of customers either buying from competitors or not buying at all.

This government seems to be unwilling to make any effort to cut costs and is content to raise prices (taxes) in the expectation that people won't change their habits and will just cough up with no detriment to the economy. Making any effort to cut benefits, literally ended in tears for Rachel Reeves.

There has been minimal effort to improve NHS efficiency, despite massive pay rises for junior doctors. Same story elsewhere. I suspect that the abolition of NHS will result in no redundancies or actual savings. The employees will just be absorbed elsewhere.

People on unemployment benefits shouldn't be destitute and should be able to afford to live a basic life, but that is where welfare should stop. Improving their lot should be their responsibility to go out and make it happen, not rely on the government for handouts. If you have 4 kids, that's your choice. The government should support parents with childcare to enable them to go out to work, irrespective of the number of children, and tax free allowances should be transferable between parents in case one parent choses to stay at home and look after the children, not just given handouts. If you were a parent with 4 or more kids, are you going to try and find a job when you've got the costs of childcare for 4 or more children when the state is handing you £7k per year per child?

This government claims its tackled the cost of living crisis with this budget. I can't see anything its done to address the cost of living. All done is take from businesses and taxpayers and given to those on benefits, minimum wage and state employees.

It's very simple. Tax goes up by £30-£40 billion (around £500 per person) every year they're in power. The excuses may vary per year, but the end result is always the same. They use this money to bribe layabouts to keep voting for them.

If you're poor working class, you'll get poorer. Only the benefit claiming elites will gain from this.

its clearly intended to pave the way for pay as you drive taxes. Why would you create all this Infrastructure and bother, if it was just for EVs. They could have simply put the road tax up.
It's the equivalent of fuel duty, not road tax

It sounds like you don't remember... we all had a vote about brexit, and came to a decision. All decided and done with, move on.
Same as labour was voted in. Decided, move on.
There isn't another version of reality where we voted remain, and all the other crap over the last few years still happened. It's utterly impossible to attribute anything to a single cause.
But are we better for leaving?
The EU isn't the same organisation we left. It's skint, Germany and France are in massive financial trouble, immigration is ruining most cities just like here.
It's a worldwide issue. Needs a worldwide solution. Even a European 1 would help. But we chose to avoid that
If your wet dream happened and we re-joined tomorrow then it would definitely not be turning the clock back. We'd just be one of a bunch of countries with massive problems.
With much worse terms than we had, and just gave away

Other than the fact that people visiting the country won't pay or people using overseas registered vehicles won't pay.

There was an easy way of charging EV users a bit more ~£300 a year on road tax, simple. This annual declaration and check approach will be rolled out. (y)

Single unemployed parent with 3 kids kets £24,491. a worker on minimum wage gets £21,807. according to some instagram add that just popped up.

Seems labour are taxing workers to pay people on benefits.

Have I said I'm for it or against it ?

There is a difference between fuel duty and road tax. This way keeps the difference.

Can you tell me how many new MOT rules are backdated ?

Over the last 15 to 20 years the number of wealthy tax payers in the UK has dropped, meaning the people which work for a living are left with an increasing tax bill to pay.

It's just tax to offset pollution and congestions caused by driving. Stupid governments come up with daft expensive ways to collect tax.

e.g. having people get their mileage checked annually by some poor sod who isn't allowed to go near the spanners.

How is this relevant?
