Use the terminal block provided,that's what it's for.
The previous pendant was not polarity sensitive ,that's why it worked fine.

Or the bulbs you put in aren't

AC has no "polarity"
(Well, the "polarity" is reversed 100 times per second.)

Connecting the Line and Neutral the correct way round is important if "Edison Screw" Lamps are used.
If "Bayonet" Lamps are used it does not much matter.

Yes, it would be better if people stopped slipping.
