Certifying new bathroom

So had a lovely new bathroom fitted very happy with the job. The fitter is an electrician but unable to certify for whatever reason didn't join or finish something which allows him to, so a family member certify's for him after doing checks and takes a payment for that.

Anyway skip forward something has happened meaning this family member of the fitter won't be able to do the job. Will any local electrian do this obviously with me paying them, or because they did not do the original fitting then they won't touch it?

It includes downlights, shaver socket, pump and extractor fan.

As I have had down lights added which are in zone 1 and other electrical work done I need a certificate of some form to say they have been done to a certain regulation I guess.

Not being an electrician I am not sure exactly what is meant by "certify" in this case but I assume it is some form of certificate to cover the quality of said work?
 
Yes, it is confusing and a poor choice of word.

Anyone can certify - that is fill out a certificate.

What you mean is self-certify to the Local Authority which really means self-notify for notifiable work.

Only the installer or someone who knows what he has done may do this.
It is a legal duty of the self-certifier (self notifier) to do this so the fitter should get his family member to do it.

I am just going to call some local electrians and ask this question will be quicker and easier I think.

If new electrical work is carried out in any of the bathroom zones 0,1 and 2. Then this becomes notifiable work, this requires more than a certificate. This requires building controls being contacted and that should really have been done prior to any electrical work being carried out. Depending on the extent of the electrical work, with addition to this you will either require a minor works cert or an electrical installation cert.
The electrical cert should be made out be the person installing the work, if they know what they are doing they should be able to do this. If they don't they should not really be installing at all. With regards to notification, if someone cannot self cert/notify then either you or the installer should have informed BC before work was started and a fee paid.

Surprised you have EFLI on ignore, in my experience only offers good sound advice.

1. You really didn't need to say anything about EFLI being on your ignore list.

2. If you felt it would be quicker and easier to call a spark, why did you bother posting here?

I think the reason you did was because you wanted to feel a little power trip by writing a bitchy post. And to cap it all, you finished with a ":D".
