Keir Starmer the backdoor charmer quell surprise i really don't like that chap. Well postidid Bodd you really are lifting the lid on utter hypocrisy, under the covers there's alot of similarities across the board here..

All private landlords should be clobbered, are they relying on it for their pension? tough s**t!

Are you being facetious here not sure. I have no beef with people affording extra single accommodation tax free. But i am of the mindset everyone should be given an incentive to work hard and have some money without the government taking it and giving it away to someone else. No. No no. By all means take another 5% from my salary pump it straight into NHS but not just into the black hole. Why not give the chance for people to have a pension pot over claiming off the state. Never claimed a single penny since i left school for anything and never intend to. All my money is hard earnt and not gifted!

Could you please explain the difference between that and any other form of work - e.g. relying on taking advantage of people who can't do their own plumbing etc.

Oh and why only private landlords? Do you think huge corporate ones are alright?

I thought the term 'champagne socialists' was a bit outdated?

Do you get tax breaks on a buy to let mortgage ? Perhaps that is what they want to do away with.
Not me personally. I don't have any properties.

The Conservative government (Osborne when Chancellor) altered the rules so that British private landlords can no longer claim mortgage interest as a business expense.

Note - only British private landlords. Corporations and foreign buyers still can.

It does seem to be merely a way of removing private landlords from the business. Presumably so that their friends in big business can take over.

All very hypocritical from the champagne socialists

Can you explain why it is hypocritical?

presumably it means that Labour MPs want a policy that could make them poorer....

How is that hypocritical?

PS I dont agree with the idea personally -it is unfair to 2nd home owners and wont sort out the housing crisis.

They should clobber landlords as much as possible. Not many do it out of compassion, they just want as much money as possible for the least effort.

I agree clobber them. Also holiday homes that stay empty most of the year.

Hardly the same thing, a plumber offers services to people who don't have the knowledge time or skill to fix something, last time I looked everyone was capable of living in a warm secure home (a basic human right) Private landlords especially are bottom feeding low life pond scum as far as I'm concerned, I hope they all go bankrupt.

I have a lot of sympathy with that view.

The cost of rent is a major part of the increase in work poverty.

Paying rent to a landlord means you are buying them an asset whilst locking your self out from getting on the housing ladder.

I dont blame landlords though, the problem is the way property is used as an investment that is the root of the problem.

Labours idea is not a solution though

Are you suggesting rich lefties wanting this policy implemented, want to be exempt from it? The link is the politics of envy.
