Right another question chaps.
Classes of Chimneys
A class is that a steel/metal liner one or can a brick classify as one
B class again is that lined.
I appologise for my ignorance but would like to know

The us rate theirs differently,
so i'm looking buy a gas fire, techy stuff says Class A/B what are my options if the Chimney fails whatever test they do?
BTW what test do they do to assure it's okay?

flue flow test using as many smoke bombs as needed

Now are there any regulations regarding the height that a wall mounted fire can be from the floor.
As my next problem will be the opening to the chimney regarding the height the fire is off the floor as I don't really want to lay a hearth down or knock out the chimney either.
May I add any gas work or gas related work will be done by a registered and qualified engineer.
Just like to know what is what as I can do brickwork and plaster

I think that the fire must be a min 150 mm above the floor but ONLY if the maker allows that!

Others will correct or confirm that.

BS5440 should answer many of your queries but the obvious person to ask is the registered installer.

I thought if you wanted to have anything combustible beneath the fire the burner has to be 9" (225mm) above it, but as Agile says check the MIs.
PS I've not fitted a fire for a good few years so could be wrong.

The BS5400 distance is quoted as the distance from floor covering to the top of the burner.

The maker however would usually quote the distance from bottom of fire to floor covering. 150mm to bottom of fire would then equate to about 225mm or more to top of burner.

Only if the burner was 75mm or more above bottom of fire , Did you not have that question in your recent ACS, how is the re-registering going has it come through yet
