We are still learning about our nearest star and the 11 year is not the only cycle it has.A few years.
11 yr cycle, from minimum, through maximum, back to minimum (or maximum>minimum>maximum, if you prefer. But they amount to the same thing).
Astronomers are pretty confident on the 11-yr cyclicity; they've been formally recording it since the mid-1700's.
