I didn't see any mention in the original post about the North pole, does it say that?

No, but from his description of how he walks, it is the only place he can be.

You could equally ask "if you are standing at one specific part of the Earth, and whichever direction you walk in, you are travelling South, where are you?"

which is the same riddle but worded differently.

Having established that you must be at the North Pole, all the rest of the squabbling is about "what colour is a Polar Bear?"
 
exactly, the north pole is the only place you could do this, actually I could have said west or east (not both though) because your east (or west) would be an arc the same distance from the pole

triangulation. its the only place you can start from and end up at the same place walkin in inly 3 directions.

Obiously North Transposes South on that one.
