Maybe if immigration hadn't been forced on the population, 'racism' wouldn't be a problem.![]()
When we were kids, you could call a spade a spade, because they weren't around to hear us. If we could return to this happy situation, I think your 'racism' thing would sort itself out Hanger.
I don't dislike squirrels, but if they invade my loft, start multiplying and interfere with my life, well there just may be a problem. (Don't worry, no squirrels were harmed in the making of this sentence.)
Still, better to have squirrels in your loft than bats in the belfry, eh Hanger?![]()

I wish I'd said that!
I always find it interesting that, whenever the word 'racist' crops up, it is only with reference to 'certain ethnic groups'. You never seem to hear it used when people talk about Irish, Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Chinese, and so on.
I wonder why.
It's based on JBR's short-term and selective memory.I wish I'd said that!

Ae you seriously suggesting that either we should allow racism to flourish and then it would die, or, if we ignore it, it will go away? When we were kids, you could call a spade a spade, because they weren't around to hear us. I don't believe what you've just said. Squirrels are vermin.I don't dislike squirrels, but if they invade my loft, start multiplying and interfere with my life, well there just may be a problem. (Don't worry, no squirrels were harmed in the making of this sentence.)

JBR,
What is that based on?
Do you really believe that those groups have not been used when discussing racism?
The 'No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish' signs are standard fare in the history of racism. Anti- Semitism is a particular form of racism, and it is the only the ignorance of racists that lumps Hindus and Sikhs in with 'p@kis', although '*******s' and 'w@gs' do get the occasional airing here.

Let me help you.
Firstly, I should have explained that I am basing this on the present: what is happening now. Yes, of course there have been instances in the past of anti-Semitism and 'no Irish' signs on hotel doors. For the record, let me say that I cannot see why there was any reason to dislike Jews or Irish people.
Secondly, my sentence 'I wonder why' what rhetorical, of course. The reason the word 'racism' seems to crop up so often these days is because certain people keep making demands on the rest of society (which often seem to be met by the powers-that-be), whereas others (my list above) are happy to keep quiet and just get on with their lives. Others have almighty chips on their shoulders and, again, make accusations that they are being treated unfairly. Whether this is true or not, I just wonder why other people (my list again) don't feel that they are being persecuted. Perhaps it is a case of the emptiest vessels shouting the loudest.
OK, let's look at it another way.
Do you have any theories why 'racists' are presently picking on muslims and black people, yet not on other ethnic minorities?
Surely, there must be a reason why they are being singled out.

I will think about this, JBR, as my initial reaction is simply to compare that to looking for the reason a bully has to pick on their victim.
In other words, does the person on the receiving end of racism deserve it becasue they are black or muslim?
I wasn't sure about that so I looked it up.Squirrels are vermin.
