Confronting racism. BBC report on a very brave lady

Yes, it was a big interruption, never mind.

Most members on here seem quite friendly, you cast a bit of a nasty vibe about the place... it's a shame, good manners don't cost anything. :(
So it is all my fault that GD forum has so much abuse flying around.

Where were you when the racial abuse was being used?

Or is your animosity reserved for me?
If so, why?

Everyone else I've conversed with has been quite friendly, though granted it's not many members, so maybe there's a whole lot of rude posters I've yet to encounter.

What racial abuse are you referring to?

I've no animosity towards you, we did clash on an earlier thread and I did resort to rudeness, which is something I'm not proud of, but it was in response to some rather rude comments made by yourself; I did offer an olive branch after the aforementioned clash but sadly you didn't respond. :(
And I offered you an olive branch a couple of posts ago, which you refused to take and now we're into an endless round of insults.
Well done.
Now shall we leave it there, or would you prefer to continue this silly downward spiral?

but then again there's always someone on every forum who likes to be horrible to noobies. :(
  Check out the dates of joining and compare you to mine.

Check out the date of my first post ( Fri Apr 18, 2014 17:44), I joined a while back when I had a DIY issue, visited once then returned again on the date of my first post so from a posting point of view I am a noob. :)

Now shall we leave it there, or would you like to continue this silly downward spiral?
You know that biscuit you said I took? Do you work for McVities?

What planet are you on that you cannot see how you come across. Only you wouldn't see something like that as a 'bring it on if you think you're hard enough'
Interpret my comment anyway you like.
I was suggesting that to continue this discussion will deteriorate into a downward spiral, as inded it has. Now if you want to, and you obviously appear to want to, join in this downward spiral, you're welcome.

Add: Look back. It didn't even need to be said! (In for the kill again).
And you want to join in.

Add more: I don't know why, but I've never argued so much and for so long with one person on any forum over one subject :? I'm assuming it's not me, (I hope), so searching for a reason...
Because you are criticising the poster not the post., despite your so called habit of not doing so.
It's now no longer one subject. This discussion was about gn being too lazy to read the posts before repeating an already discussed subject, and me reacting rather impatiently to him for doing so.

That's why you've joined this discussion, to criticise me, again, for no other reason than you wanted to.

Where's your mantra now?

Edit: Sorry about a mistake in the syntax thowing the semantics a bit awry. I've fixed it now. My fault for not even checking the post had loaded properly before leaving it.

Yes, my sentiment exactly Groov. (My dear ole mum used to say the same).

That's why I leave threads, you get to a point where you dread the reply. Just bear in mind he is only after 'the kill'. So no matter what you say he will try to discredit you. It's quite insidious..

It's a shame really, in my experience even when RH isn't being rude he has a tendency to patronise which is always going to get peoples backs up, you can kind of feel him looking down his nose at people and he's absolutely certain that he's more intelligent than the majority of posters; he patronised me during my very first posts yet he knows nothing at all about me, as I said, it's a shame and not very welcoming... Maybe he doesn't realise he's doing it?
What an utter load of carp!
BT, as well, you two seem to have a very selective memory.

"Isn't GD forum a lovely polite place. No insults, no abuse, compliments all round."

What a load of total hypochrisy.

What racial abuse are you referring to?

Quite possibly this

Well done whiteshite. That's three cases of school meals sorted. How about the rest of your dopey claim

An Ad hominem attack, with a racist motivation.
What a total misrepresentation!
How many times has that one and only comment of mine been round and round and explained umpteen times.

You're another poster who can only repeat ad nauseum the same old arguments. It's been dealt with many times over. How many more times do you need it to be explained?

Do you honestly belive that was the one and only abusive comment that's ever been posted on GD forum?
If you do, you need to read a few more posts.

Additionally, the comment did address the subject. The potentially racially abusive part was a corruption of ****espirit's username, who adopted his user name because of the "White" reference.

I think he does too Cajar, but if I say it I'm this and I'm that.

Thanks GN. That's helped me a lot because I think that's part of why we clash. He's supercilious. You often have to be to win in business...
Poster, not the post?
Except where the cap fits. Say something nice, positive and helpful instead and give credit where due. I'm not falling out with you but, as I once said, you sure do make it hard for anyone to warm to you. Since that's not what you're here for I don't suppose it matters though. Still think you should read up on Dale Carnigie. Style over substance.

The substance is okay but not how you go about it. That is my problem with you, you big tree!

I have been rude to you on a previous thread but it was in response to abuse from yourself, I was taught manners as a child so I don't find resorting to insults an easy thing to do, it's counter productive and can only ever be negative in context but sometimes it's the only appropriate response available though really I guess it would probably be better to say nothing at all. :(

Another thinly veiled threat...
Not thinly veiled at all. I'm willing to go into the downward spiral if gn wishes.
Please define your limit of thinness with regard to veiled threats.

If he doesn't he can agree that we'll agree to differ.
However, he may disagree that you have agreed because of your attitude.

Please explain how you interpret that as a thinly veiled threat?
Because, presumably, it had not exceeded his limit of thinness.
Please explain why you think it has.

And, why, pray tell, are you jumping in to gn defence?
Please define your view of jumping and when this differs from merely agreeing.

Is it just your animosity towards me also?
Do you feel that some posters have animosity toward you?
If so, discuss and, if possible, state why this may be so.

Or do you think that gn cannot defend himself sufficiently?
That agreement with someone is stated in no way implies that.
Please explain why you think it does.

Or do you want to pursue this discussion into a downward spiral?
Please define a downward spiral with regard to a discussion and state how it differs from a straight plunge.

It really does appear, BT, that you want to persistently oppose me on any subject and whenever you find the opportunity.
Please explain why it does not occur to you that when others disagree it may be you who is wrong.

Respond to the post, not the poster was your mantra.
Please explain how such a statement can be a mantra.

Have you discarded that now?
What do you think? Please explain your reasons.
If you care to read all of my posts, you'll soon see all of the answers to your questions neatly laid out for you.
If any of my answers are too ambiguous fo you to understand, please quote it for me and I'll ty to explain it in simple one-syllable words.

So if everyone's doing it, that makes it ok in your eyes? Roguehanger, It's NEVER ok to:

  • make “jokes” or negative comments about a particular ethnic group

call others racist names or verbally abuse them

bully, hassle or intimidate others because of their race.

What part of that don't you agree with?

Could you go a little further and inculde the religious, sexist, homophobic, etc, do you think?
Perhaps you could teach me.
You'll be advising me on the benefits of PA next.
