According to some.

I was suggesting a reason why 'transformer' does not attract the same general opprobrium as plug top and plug socket.

Fuses don't trip, breakers trip. Fuses blow, or rupture. Fuse boards and consumer units are different.

Fuse boards and consumer units are different.
From BS 7671 (with my emphasis):

Consumer unit (may also be known as a consumer control unit or electricity control unit). A particular type of distribution board comprising a type-tested co-ordinated assembly for the control and distribution of electrical energy, principally in domestic premises, incorporating manual means of double-pole isolation on the incoming circuit(s) and an assembly of one or more fuses, circuit-breakers, residual current operated devices or signalling and other devices proven during the type-test of the assembly as suitable for such use.’

i hate to join in, but what's an enclosure that contains MCBs and cartridge fuse carriers in one called?

A Pic-N-Mic board! Ha ha:D:D:D
p.s. you should NOT really have MCBS and cartridge fuses on the same din-rail - it is unnecessary to mix and match - it just looks so Awful!

Tell me why not? It's PERFECTLY acceptable. There are times when a fuse is preferable over an MCB, but the rest of the installation would be MCBs
