Hi Guys, I've searched but cannot find a definitive answer so grateful for any links.

A family member is soon to return from overseas where he has been working for 3 months. The current rules states he needs to confirm a -ve test before flying, then needs to self isolate for 10 days.

The query - When he is at home, does the rest of the family have to self isolate also for the same period?
The home is currently having some minor works done. Are contractors able to visit the home whilst the chap is self isolating?

Cheers All

Just get him to pay the £500 fine, then he can mingle with the community at large.

Ideally, he should be in total isolation. I'd stop the contractors coming in, or at the very least, make sure they are well aware that there is a person in the house who has recently travelled back from abroad.

I don't think other people MUST isolate, as this can be very hard, but really, they all should. Ideally, your family member should mostly stay to their own room, rather than use the whole house. But this is often just not possible.

Not easy. Hopefully if negative before travelling they will still be -ve when they get home.

5 days min providing people have a test - ;) and maybe give it some one on the way :( so why not wear a mask all of the way there.

Or 10day I think and no symptoms at all.

They should, if they come into close contact with him. Best way would be that he stay completely isolated, caravan in the drive or similar arrangement, even confined most of the time to one room and alone.

Yes, but they must not come into close contact with him and should be warned.

Thanks guys for the opinions......but any actual link to rules/regulations/laws?

What do people not understand about "isolate"?

Because people keep popping up and saying it's all confusing. Some TV reporters must interview lots before they find one or maybe they have found a way of spotting likely subjects.

:( Trouble is some of it is. My brother found himself effectively in 5 bubbles. All but him and his wife caught it so he was probably lucky.

The rest of the family are not required to isolate.

For that to make sense it needs a legal definition of what self isolating means so it's better to use a site where they have put it in plain english ;) well fairly plain for them

People who share a household with anyone self-isolating after returning from the above countries now also need to self-isolate until 10 days have passed since anyone they live with was last in one of these countries. These enhanced measures are in place in order to prevent the spread of new strains of coronavirus (COVID-19) into the UK.

In England, if you do not self-isolate in accordance with the rules, you can receive a fixed penalty notice of £1,000 for a first offence, increasing to £2,000 for a second offence. Further repeat offences will attract penalties of £4,000 and then £10,000 for each repeat offence.

Or trawl the legal side and miss things.

All common sense really - keep away from everyone else, absolutely no exceptions, absolutely no contact. Mined ewe, it's only a government conspiracy, to restrict everyone isn't it, there is not really a pandemic - if you take notice of some of the fringe idiots.

wrap him in clingfilm before he enters the house, get him to waddle up to a room and close the door on him.
disinfect everything else he touches.
cut a slot in the door to pass food through every day, use paper cups and plates.
give him a bucket.

:) :) :)
